“If I said yes?” he asked. He was worried I didn’t approve! Another little piece of my heart fell to the ground for him to take.
“Uh…best date ever. Seriously, I’m fucking excited right now.”
“Good. I was worried.” He patted my leg. “I figured we could have a little competition going. They have semi decent food, but, more importantly, they have games. Lots of games.”
“I think we might have a problem.” I intertwined our fingers. “And who the hell cares about food when we have batting cages in the distance?”
“God, you’re amazing.”
“You won’t be saying that when I beat you at everything.”
“Everything, eh?” he asked, parking the car. “That’s quite the statement.”
“And I meant it.” I hopped out and met him at the front of the hood. “I think we’re going to have to make a bet of sorts.”
“Which you’ll lose,” he said on a fake cough, smiling when I poked him in the side. “What should we do first?”
“Honestly? This.” I stood on my tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss on his lips. He didn’t try to deepen it. He let me be in charge and I ended it. “I couldn’t stop thinking about your mouth in the car and I know you’re having an issue.” I pointed to his crotch, which was still tented. “But as soon I start winning, I’m positive the attraction will die down.”
“You say a lot of things, but they don’t mean shit.” His smile was the perfect crooked one and he pulled me against him. “Help a guy out and walk in front of me.”
“Checking out my ass?” I teased and felt his length. That shut me up real quick.
“Nope. This time, I can’t handle it. I need you to hide my boner from the family that’s passing by.”
I burst out laughing and did just that.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Zade
If I’d thought I had it bad for Callie before, it wasnothingcompared to how I felt watching her line up the winning putt in a game of mini golf. She bent low, angling the shitty putter all sorts of directions to get the best shot. I wasn’t downplaying the seriousness of the situation, because if she didn’t sink it, I’d win. Ireallyliked winning.
“Don’t mess up the angle,” I said to her, but she shushed me and shoved me. I thought about distracting her with my hands and body, but she’d caught on to that right away. She’d demanded a no-touch rule during the game. I hated it, but it made me crave her more somehow.
She lined up her shot, took a slow breath and brought the putter back. The ball rolled straight into the hole.Shit. We’d tied. She jumped into the air, did a little wiggle and looked at me expectantly. “Take that, Z-man.”
“God, you’re annoying. And we can touch now, right, boss?”
“Yeah, I like touching when there isn’t a game involved.” She squeezed me and patted my ass. “See, love the touching.”
“I can’t believe we tied at air hockey, darts and golf.” I kept one arm around her and held our putters in my left hand. “I’m impressed with you and disappointed in myself.”
“Nah, don’t be disappointed. I’m quite talented.” She faced me and I captured her lips with mine. She sighed, a sound that I now put in my top favorites. “You played well. Focus more next time.”
“You think you’re funny. All we have left is the batting cages. You ready?” My stomach growled and she laughed. She patted it with her hand.
“I feel ya, big guy. Let’s get some grub. Nothing like good ole-fashion competition to really get the adrenaline going. I’m famished myself, but I didn’t even think about food with the game on the line. And I’m a really hungry person.” I loved that about her. She ate what she wanted and didn’t care what I thought about it.
We walked up to the cart of food. “Looks like we have the great selection of hot dogs, corn dogs and chill dogs.”
“God. What a tough choice. I’ll take two hot dogs.” She went to grab her wallet, bless her, and I laughed. She glanced at me with a raised brow. “What?”
“I’m buying your food.”
“Uh, you paid for the golf and the darts. Let me contribute something.”
“You realize this is a date and I’m chivalrous, asyoustated, not me. I want to buy it for you. I want to treat you. So, lighten up and let me.” I gave her my pitching stare, the one that guys who go pro hate. But instead of quivering, she stuck her tongue out at me.
