Faith growled low. She thought no one heard, but Logan glanced at her with a raised eyebrow. To her surprise, he removed Jessica’s hand.
“You will call me, Captain Coor. We are ready to go, but we’ll need to keep the tour short so that Faith doesn’t overdo it.”
Jessica gave Faith another dirty look. “Of course. I’m sureherpeople are in poor health. Perhaps she should stay here while I take you on a private tour.”
She was going to knock that bitch on her fat ass! She’ll show her how much poor health her people were in. Taking a step forward, Logan’s arm stopped her, holding her back.
“We won’t be needing your services. You can leave.”
Jessica’s perfectly beautiful face paled. “But I have to take you on the tour.”
“You are relieved of your duty.” Logan walked over to a console on the wall. He hit a button. A computer’s voice sounded.
“How may I help you?”
“Connect me with the dome leader’s office.”
A few seconds later, another voice came through.
“Colonel Winstead’s office,” a woman answered.
“Mary? This is Captain Coor. I need a different person to give the tour. This Jessica person is unacceptable.”
“Oh dear. I am sorry about that. She wasn’t my first choice. The colonel picked her. I will come myself. Just give me ten minutes, sir.”
Logan disconnected the call and turned to find Jessica still standing there with her mouth open. He gave her his scary look. “You will leave now.”
Faith held back her laughter at the insulted expression on Jessica’s face. The angrier she became, the uglier she became. Finally, she got the message that she wasn’t wanted.
“I have never!” She turned and stomped out of the quarters, grumbling about idiotic aliens.
“I hope you don’t mind the wait. It should be another ten minutes.”
“No problem. Who is Mary?” Faith asked, taking a seat on the couch.
“The colonel’s personal assistant. She is a very sweet woman and deserves a raise for dealing with all the mess going on around here.”
“Sweet? Is she pretty?” Why did she ask that? It shouldn’t matter.
Logan sat next to her and picked up her hand. She immediately felt a spark between them, but also comfort.
“Mary is probably my mother’s age. You’ll like her.”
“She may be nice to you, but how does she feel about subway dwellers? There’s a lot of prejudice against my people. You just witnessed some of that just now with Jessica the bitch.”
He squeezed her hand. “There is a prejudice against my people as well. People fear what they don’t know. I see and feel the suspicious eyes watching us when we are among the humans. Mary isn’t like that.”
Warrior Powers tapped Faith on her shoulder. Logan growled low. Powers took a step back. Was he jealous too? That made her feel better.
“Sorry to interrupt. But Medic Haggard suggested drinking the fortified water before you do any physical activity like exercise.”
“You’re right.”
“I’ll get it for you,” he offered.
“Thank you, Warrior Powers.”
Ten minutes later, Faith met the sweet Mary. Okay, the woman was very kind and did not look at Logan like she wanted to drink him up. Also, she had a wedding ring on and reminded Faith of her own mother.
