Chapter 26
Faith
“Are you okay, Faith?” Warrior Lake asked for the third time.
“Yes,” she answered. “The treatment was more intense than the first time. I just need some rest.”
“We’ll be here if you need anything.”
“Thank you.” She had just enough energy to close the doors and climb onto her bed. Faith didn’t even bother to pull the sheets down. She was out before she knew it.
Hours later, she woke up in a dark room feeling disoriented. Panic filled her. Where was she? It took a moment before she remembered. Then she had that weird feeling in her stomach. She knew what that meant.
“Oh no.”
Getting off the bed, she rushed to the bathroom and made it just in time to throw up. Even more stuff came out than yesterday. Doc Haggard warned her that may be the case because he had doubled her treatment. He sent special Drastan water fortified with vitamins and minerals to help replace anything her body needed to recover. She left the water in the refrigerator.
Standing, she flushed the toilet, then wetted a washcloth to clean her face. Using the toothbrush and toothpaste, she cleansed her mouth. She worried her vomit got on her clothes, so she took off her clothes and placed them in a basket someone had brought when she was out. Feeling clean and refreshed, she went to get the water.
The injured warrior named Marque was lying on the couch. The other two warriors were nowhere to be seen.
“Hi,” Faith said.
Marque moved to a sitting position. “Did you rest well?”
“Yes. How about you?”
“I’m doing much better.”
“Where are the others?”
“They are resting while I take a watch.”
“Should you be working so soon?”
“The door is secure and if there is any trouble, I would call out for the others.”
“Makes sense.”
“Is there anything I can do for you?” he asked.
“Nope. Just getting some of that nutrient water Haggard sent back for me. Do you want anything?”
“Is there any more of that noodle stuff available? I had some earlier, and it was good.”
Faith laughed. “I’ll check.”
She opened the refrigerator door and grabbed her bottle of water and a covered bowl. Placing the bowl on the counter, she removed the lid.
“Score!” she yelled out.
“What is that? Are you hurt?” Marque immediately got to his feet.
She laughed. “Sorry. I just meant, score, I found the spaghetti. Let me heat it up for both of us. I’m feeling a little hungry.”
“Can I assist?”
“Grab us some plates from the cabinet while I heat this in the microwave. I think I remember how to use it.”
