Medic Haggard moved the hanging curtains to surround her bed to give them more privacy.
“Now, I have some questions I need answered before I scan and treat you,” Medic Haggard said.
“Shoot.”
“What?”
“I mean, ask your questions.”
“Right.”
These aliens were going to have to loosen up a bit if they planned on blending in with humans. That Logan might stay longer allowing her to get to know him was appealing. Then she remembered why she was here—for questioning on the raid she had taken part in. She had to be careful around them and keep her focus on getting out of the dome in one piece.
Looking through the slight opening of her curtains, she watched as Logan spoke with one of his injured warriors. He cared about his men. He showed care with her, a stranger. She liked that about him. There was so much more she wanted to know. Hopefully, she would get a little more time with him before she left.
Chapter 17
Logan
Marque was doing well. However, if he had to rely on the humans to treat him, he could have easily died. Thankfully, he had insisted on bringing their own medic and it was paying off.
“Are they treating you well?” Logan asked.
“They are, but I don’t enjoy being so exposed. Medic Haggard says I can return to our quarters tomorrow, but he wants me to rest there a few more days, then I can go on light duty.”
“Follow his orders. I know you want to get back into action, but don’t rush your recovery. Has Dome Leader Winstead checked on you or the human soldiers injured in the raid?”
Marque shook his head. “He’s sent Lt. Vasquez to question us, but other than that, he hasn’t bothered.”
That made Logan furious. His commanders always checked on the injured. It was an honor and a duty to do so. It was shameful to not perform that simple task. This human dome leader was not worthy of holding his command.
“I’m ready to leave and help with the mission,” Marque said.
Logan placed a hand on his shoulder. “Take your time. Rest and heal. When Medic Haggard clears you, I will have you help with the mission.”
“I hope it’s soon. I can’t stand lying around in bed. The only positive side is getting to have these beautiful human females checking on me.”
He chuckled. “We heal quickly, so I’m sure it won’t be long. I’ve got to have a conversation with Dome Leader Winstead. I’ll come back tomorrow to see how you are progressing.”
“Thank you, sir.”
Logan glanced once more at the bed where Faith was. He couldn’t see her because of the hanging curtains around the bed. He found Warriors Lake and Powers standing in the waiting area. A female was passing by, and he asked her a question.
“Where are the human soldiers injured from the raid?”
“They are in those three beds over there.”
He walked over to the beds. He felt responsible for these males since someone injured them during a mission he oversaw. The humans looked at his approach suspiciously.
“Soldiers, how are you doing?”
The three males looked at one another. The one in the middle bed answered him.
“We are healing but should be released in a few days.”
“Take the time you need to fully recover. I will be back later to ask you more questions about what happened, if you are up to it.”
“Of course, sir.”
