Chapter 15
Logan
“I’ve heard what happens when Dome Leader Winstead takes people in for questioning. They don’t come back.”
Logan wondered if this was part of the conspiracy that Commander Drake hinted at. Now he wished he had questioned the commander in more depth about what exactly he was looking for.
He noticed Faith was silent, which, from his short time with her, he knew was unusual. She was looking at his warriors with curiosity. Did she find them appealing? A part of him did not like her looking at other males. She should only look at him with desire. Wait. Where were these strange feelings and thoughts coming from? Maybe had too much exposure to the Earth elements last night, and it was affecting him somehow.
“Did you contact Medic Haggard?”
“Yes, sir. He is waiting for our arrival.”
“I want Faith escorted directly to the medical facility for an evaluation. After Haggard clears her, she is to be escorted to our living quarters and should remain there under guard.”
“Yes, sir,” both warriors said simultaneously.
She cleared her throat, and he realized he had not introduced her yet. His mother taught him better manners than that.
“Faith, this is Warrior Lake and Warrior Powers.”
“Hi, I’m Faith.”
“Faith. Do you not have a surname?” Warrior Lake asked.
“I did once upon a time. Now those who live in tribes just go by their first names.”
Logan suspected another reason she was not giving up her last name was that she knew they had a database and could search her family history. If there was a family member involved in the raid, she would try to protect them. Logan looked at his two warriors and frowned.
“Where is Warrior Marque?”
“He was injured in the raid and is still being treated at the medical facility.”
“Is it serious?” Logan asked with concern.
“Nothing a few days in the medical facility won’t cure,” Lake answered.
“Were there any fatalities?”
Faith shifted into a more upright position next to him. She was paying attention to their conversation. Maybe she was worried about her people.
“Not that we know of. Two human soldiers are also being treated. We believe the raiders suffered injuries, but they all got away.”
“All of them?”
“Yes, sir.”
“How is that possible? We were better trained and had more advanced weaponry.”
“There’s more,” Warrior Lake said. He looked nervous.
“What is it?”
“Half of the shipment was taken, and the other half destroyed.”
Silence filled the back of the truck, and it was more menacing than if Logan had yelled out curses.
“How do you know the raiders were injured?” Logan asked.
