“Faith! Come now!” Rooster called out.
The smart thing would be to go with Rooster to safety. The problem was she couldn’t see him or the fallen Drastan warrior. Hell, she couldn’t even see the truck! The sandstorm in the dark was a nightmare. Panic made her run. She didn’t know which direction she was going. The only thing in her mind was to get away.
She ran hoping she was heading in the right direction toward the buildings. The opposite way led to the dried riverbed. No good came from that direction, her brother always warned.
Screams had her looking back. Was Felix okay? What about Nox and Cary? She would even hate if Rooster died because of Waller’s crazy, dangerous plan. She couldn’t see anything, but she heard boots following behind her. It could be her brother or Rooster but there was no guarantee. If someone from the dome grabbed her, she would probably never see the light of day again. She continued to run blindly through the growing sandstorm.
“Stop!” a deep man’s voice called out.
That was not Felix or Rooster. It wasn’t Waller either. Who was after her? Panic set in again and made her do something stupid. She turned to look back while still running and didn’t see the steep ravine.
“Watch out!” the man yelled.
She stumbled but before she fell, she was hit by something big and hard. Her last thought was that she was going to die without ever having shared a real kiss with a guy she liked. Rooster didn’t count.
