“I may be biased when it comes to her, and it won’t be fair for me to give the final assessment when I…”

“You care for her?”

“That’s’ between me and her.”

“She’s just coming out of a relationship.”

“I know that.”

“She’s not someone to play with and throw away the next day.”

“I know that too.”

Vic looked out the window, then glanced back at Drake. “She’s a grown woman and can make her own decisions. If you hurt her…”

“You and Jagger will gut me?” Drake asked.

Vic gave him a sardonic smile, “Something like that.”

Drake sat up slowly. “I think it’s time to go home.”

“Let me find someone to take you home and stay with you.”

“What?” Drake felt confused.

“You had a huge electrical shock pulsing through your body that could have killed you. The paramedics wanted to admit you to the hospital.”

Drake shook his head despite the heaviness and pain he felt. “I’m not going to a damn hospital.”

“I told them that. However, you got injured while on the job. Our insurance will go sky high if you have a relapse. That means someone is going home with you to keep watch. You’re off work tomorrow. You’ll need to see your doctor for approval to return to work.”

“Damn it Vic! I don’t need to be treated like an invalid.”

“That’s the way it is. I’ll have Jinx stay with you.”

“What?” His heartbeat raced at the thought of having her back in his home, but it was a bad idea. She was a temptation, one he would not be able to resist.

“Look, you may not actually need someone to watch over you, but she does. She got hit in the back of the head hard and might have a concussion.”

Drake was concerned. “She needs to go to a hospital.”

“I know but she refused, of course.” Vic shook his head in frustration.

“Shy will watch over her,” Drake said, knowing that the two had become good friends. He wanted to take back the words for some reason.

“Jinx will make a fuss over having someone watch her, similar to what you just did.”

Suddenly it hit Drake. “You are one sly son of a bitch.”

Vic shrugged and smiled. “She thinks she’s watching over you but…”

“I’m actually watching over her.”

“It’s a win-win. You’re both off tomorrow, so you’ll be able to rest up.”

Drake could refuse, but the fact that Jinx had been hurt because of his carelessness really bothered him. He should have shoved that stripper off of him the second he realized she was just a distraction. The fact that Jinx had managed to bring down Roberts despite everything was incredible, but it could have gone fatally wrong.

“Fine, I’ll babysit her.”
