Jinx couldn’t help but make a disgusted face. “Man, his luck is worse than mine.”
“It wasn’t luck—it was stupidity. Now he’s made another stupid decision to jump bail and he’ll be heading where?”
“Are you asking me as part of a conversation or as part of my assessment?”
“Of course,” Drake nodded.
“Right, okay. He’ll need money to get off the planet. We should try his family, friends, and usual hangouts first. If they don’t help him or don’t have enough money for him, he’ll have to try to steal it.”
“Right on all counts, except for the family. Roberts burned his bridges with all his family members.”
“Who helped post his bail?”
“A girlfriend, one Bambi Taylor.”
She snorted. “Bambi? Does she have big boobs and blonde hair with an IQ of ten?”
“Yes and a fine ass also. Have you met her?”
Shaking her head, she gritted her teeth with jealousy. Of course Drake had checked out this Bambi person’s ass. It wasn’t like Jinx had any right to be jealous. She didn’t care, really she didn’t. He was her trainer, that was al. “I made an educated guess. So we’re going to visit with Bambi?”
“Not to her home. She’s probably working tonight.”
“Where does she work?’
He didn’t answer her as they drove down the road, which piqued her interest. She should have grabbed a laptop or tablet to pull up the perp’s records. She couldn’t help but vent her frustration. “I feel like I’m going in blind not having seen the case file first.”
“Having regrets already?” Drake smirked.
“No way,” Jinx shook her head resolutely. “I know I was meant to do this.”
“No one is meant to do this job. It’s just better suited for a special few.”
“Let me guess—you’re one of the special few but not me.”
“That’s my opinion sweetheart.”
“Don’t call me sweetheart!” she growled out furiously.
They were silent for about twenty minutes before Drake pulled up into a parking lot. She glanced up at the flashing neon sign and the promotion being broadcasted. “You have got to be shitting me. Welcome to the T&A Select Club. Ribs and beer are half off during Wednesday’s happy hour.”
“This place is really classy to serve ribs,” Drake quipped.
Jinx rolled her eyes. The thought of scantily clad women dancing in front of men gorging themselves on messy ribs made her vomit in her mouth a little. Sucking in a deep breath she released it slowly.Concentrate on the job Jinx. She told herself.
Drake parked his hover truck on the side of the building to keep it hidden. “Stay here.”
“Wait, what? How am I supposed to observe you if I’m sitting here doing nothing?”
“I’ve got the contact lens cameras on and a microphone as a button.” He leaned over to open the glove compartment. Jinx moved as far back in the seat as she could go to avoid his touch, but she still felt the warmth of his body. His scent was divine.
“Here, it’s my tablet. The code is 123321. You will be able to watch and hear everything.”
Jinx wasn’t thrilled with this plan, but it was better than nothing. “What if I need to communicate with you?”
“Isaac gave you an earpiece. Just turn it on. I have a smaller one taped to my inner ear. That way it won’t be noticeable.”
She took the earpiece out of the vest pocket and attempted to put the thing in her ear. She should have paid closer attention to Isaac when he was talking about it. “Dang it.”
