“Yay!”
“If sis is really down, tell her she won’t have to worry about a thing while she’s pregnant. I know she probably won’t want us to pay her, but I’m going to make sure she’s well compensated,” he said before returning to his food.
“Yeah, I already told her you would, but she insisted on doing it for free.”
“Nah. For what she’s doing, she deserves the world. I’m going to make sure you and I put it at her feet.”
All I could do was beam as I stared at my husband biting down on his chicken. He was casually eating and making plans like I hadn’t just dropped a bomb on him, further proving he was the perfect man for me. Before I could stop myself, I grabbed his face and kissed him. Beethoven laughed as he kissed me back. The tears came out of nowhere, and I didn’t bother trying to hold them in.
“Thank you,” I whispered. “I love you so much.”
“No need to thank me. Thank you for bringing our son into this world and staying here with me to raise him. I love you more.”
We kissed again before I released him so he could returnto his meal, but I was too excited to eat mine. I excused myself and grabbed my phone from our bedroom. Mahogany had texted me to let me know she’d made it home, but I called her instead of texting her back.
“You told him?” she asked as soon as she answered.
“I did.”
“Sooo?”
“He said yes!”
“OMG, OMG, OMG! Yay, sister! I’m sohappyfor you!”
My tears started up again as I sat on the edge of the bed. My husband and I were going to have another baby, and my best friend and sister would carry him or her for us. The only thing that was going to make my perfect life better was the moment I got to hold our baby in my arms.
Aspen
My pretty little baby had been pouting all day. Now that Beethoven and Whiskee had gotten their home together, the crew was throwing them a welcome home party. Since I knew there would be smoking and drinking going on, I advised Malaysia not to go. She was six months pregnant with our second child, another girl, and I didn’t want her inhaling all that smoke, nor did I want the guys feeling like they had to smoke outside. Malaysia agreed with me, but that didn’t stop her from feeling sad about missing out.
I swear it felt like God kept giving me girls to soften myass. I couldn’t wait until He and Malaysia gave me a son. Even if it never happened, I was grateful and proud of my family of girls. Me and Malay talked shit about it often because she was getting a little army together to go against me in our home, but I wouldn’t trade her, Asia, and our new little baby for anything in this world.
When I walked into our bedroom and saw her pouting as she looked at something on her phone, I chuckled. My parents had agreed to keep Asia tonight before I decided we should stay home. Malaysia insisted I still go, but I wasn’t going to leave my pretty little baby here alone.
“Get dressed, mama,” I said, gaining her attention.
“For what?”
“I’m taking you out.”
Her smile spread quickly. “Really?” she asked sweetly.
“Really.”
“Yay! I was sad about not being able to go to the party, but I was trying to hide it.”
I laughed as she hopped out of bed. “You didn’t really do a good job hiding it, pretty lil baby, but that’s cool.”
Her eyes rolled playfully as she stepped in front of me and wrapped her arms around me. “Where are we going?”
“To that mini golf and arcade place you like.”
“Ooh, yes! I love that place.” Before I could prepare, she punched me square in my chest.
“Ow!” I yelled as I massaged where she hit. “The fuck you hit me for, heavy handed ass lil girl?”
“Because you cheated last time we went.”
