“I love you too, Jessica.”
The contentment radiating off him matches my own. I’ve known I love him for quite some time, and saying the words out loud brings me a sense of calmness. Having him say it back sends my heart racing again.
He’s the source of every feeling in my body, and as I gaze up into his eyes, I’m filled with a sense of pure happiness.
I love my man, and he loves me right back.
Chapter 39
LUKE
She loves me. That’s the only thought in my head, on repeat as the medical staff ask all their questions.
Luckily, I’m let off the hook quickly when they realize I’m fine. The crash was significant, but it looked worse than it was.
Our cars are designed to break apart in a collision, while our cockpits are designed to keep the driver safe.
Of course, the crash wasn’t pleasant on my body, and I feel a little hammered, but nothing I can’t handle.
Having Jessica tell me she loves me, well, that sends another kind of rush through me.
Seeing her concern for me made me see these crashes in a slightly different light.
For me, crashing is part of the sport, and even though we try to avoid it, we also know that it’s part of being an F1 driver. Seeing how scared she looked made me realize how terrifying it must be to be a spectator to this sport.
I knowmy family is always worried I’ll crash and injure myself, but seeing the raw reaction of Jessica was something else.
The good thing that came out of the crash was her telling me she loves me.
I’ve been feeling vulnerable myself for saying the big three words but having them out in the open feels natural. I don’t even know why I was worried in the first place.
When I return to my hotel room, Jessica is waiting for me with dinner ready. She meets me at the door and raises her eyebrows when she sees that I’m still in my racing suit.
I decided the occasion calls for something special, and I know the racing suit gets my girl all hot and bothered.
I’ve showered and changed into a clean one, because no one would be in the intimate presence of the ones we have used on the track.
She goes up on her toes, giving me a proper kiss in greeting.
“Missed you, hotshot, I must say, this is a rather pleasant surprise.” She looks over the race suit again as I hold her in my arms.
“I thought the occasion required something special for my love.” She sighs at that, giving me the most stunning smile.
My nicknames for her are slowly piling up, but unlike when we first met, she loves it.
I’m looking forward to fulfilling another one of our fantasies, but when my stomach rumbles, she chuckles before leading me towards the table.
Once again, Robert has outdone himself with a fabulous meal. He called me earlier, asking if I was alright after the crash, and letting me know he wasn’t staying for dinner today.
“Do you ever get scared?” Jessica asks me after a while, referring to my crash.
“I’m not scared in the sense that I go around afraid I’ll crash, but when I lose control, like today, I have a small second before I hit the wall where I’m wondering just how bad it will be.”
You can’t go around thinking about the next time you’ll crash or how bad it can be. If you do that, it will consume you. To succeed in this sport, you must be willing to take risks that many would not.
“Yeah, I get that. I’m glad you’re okay.”
I grab her hand resting on the table, running my thumb over her fingers.
