“My girl?” I mimic his words. My heart races as Luke scratches his neck and looks sheepishly at me.

“Yeah, you’re my girl in every sense of the word, if you’ll have me,” he says, leaning in to kiss me. I feel lightheaded, and even though part of me wonders if we’re moving too fast, it just feels so good and natural to be with Luke.

Being part of the F1 world means everything is all-consuming, and my relationship with Luke feels the same way.

“Yeah, I’ll have you,” I tell him, and he smiles at me.

“Okay then, girlfriend, let’s get you to bed, to sleep.” He laughs when I pout, but we agreed to try slowing things down in the sexual department.

When we get into bed, Luke pulls me into his arms for cuddling, and I fall asleep with a smile on my face.

Chapter 21

LUKE

I wake up with Jessica in my arms.

My girl.

In my mind, she’s been my girl ever since she caught my attention, so the word just slipped out when we were on the phone with Sarah.

When Jessica asked me, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to clarify my expectations with her. There’s no one else for me, and I feel like the luckiest guy having her all to myself.

I nuzzle into her neck, and she stirs in my arms.

“Morning, baby.” She turns around to face me.

“Morning, baby,” she says shyly, making me smile wider.

Jessica fascinates me. She can be the most confident woman, asserting herself or telling me exactly what she wants in the bedroom, but then she’s shy about calling me baby.

It’s adorable.

I’m happy I bring out all sides of herand can’t wait to explore other parts of her as our relationship deepens.

We stay in bed, cuddling and talking about the exceptions for the day before I have to get up and ready. Race day means I need a big breakfast.

“Do you want to go into the paddock with me today?”

I ask her, and I really hope Jessica wants to take this relationship to the next level. It’s been good just the two of us, but I want to show her the world, and I don’t want us to hide.

“I don’t know, Luke. I want to look a little into the whole rules of fraternizing with a driver before making anything public, if that’s okay with you?”

My heart drops a little, but I also want to respect her wishes.

I couldn’t care less if anyone would say anything about our relationship, but I can also understand that the situation is different for her.

She’s not used to being in the spotlight, with people judging her every move. I kiss her softly and look into her eyes.

“We will do this in your time, baby, noworries. I can order a driver to take you back after breakfast?” She nods and gives me one more kiss.

She may not be mine in public, but she is in private, and for now, that is more than enough.

After breakfast, I take the elevator down with Jessica, making the most of our last moments together before the chaos of the day begins.

“Go get that championship lead, hotshot,” she tells me.

“Do I get a reward if I do?”
