“Something which hasn’t crossed his mind,” Ishmael replied sharply.
“Of course not, sorry, sir, I spoke out of turn.”
“Be more guarded with your tongue. There’s no need to add to the situation. If he’d overheard...” Ishmael’s voice trailed off in a meaningful snarl.
Josh held his hands up. “You’re right. Again, I am sorry, sir.”
Ishmael gave him a curt nod before calling out to Kris, “How about having Josh take the camera and take a few of you?”
Kris brightened. “Yeah! That’d be cool.” He pulled the strap from over his head and passed the camera to the bodyguard.
Ishmael watched as Kris smiled and posed in front of the gate.”You know there is more than one gate?”
“There is?” Kris asked in surprise.
“Yes, this is the newest one. It was handcrafted in Beijing then brought over. It was positioned after a detailed feng shui analysis was done. Prince Andrew came and did the opening ceremony.”
“Oh, wow.” Kris accepted his camera back from Josh. “Will I be able to see them all today?”
Ishmael shook his head. “Maybe one or two more of them, but if you want to experience Chinatown properly, you’ll want to take your time. We’ll come back again and explore a different part of it, don’t worry.”
“The rest of the guys are on their way here now,” Josh interrupted.
Ishmael nodded. “We’ll wait for them here, then.”
Kris grinned and lifted his camera. “Now I’ve got one of you, too,” he said to Ishmael. Ishmael gave him a ghost of a smile.
This was good. Very, very good. Kris had just added him to his trove of happy memories.
