Black wings rustling, Sever snarled, “I don't want them around her.”
“But we agreed that she'd have a choice, Sever. Maybe Miri should get to know Angels better. And if they can tell us what kind of power she'll have, that might be helpful.”
“Is this about breakfast?”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, I'm inviting an Angel here just because you pissed me off.”
“You pissed her off, Your Highness?” Gabriel had taken a while to get used to Sever's new title, and now that he got it right, it seemed as if he were using it to pointedly remind Sever that I outranked him.
Well, rank didn't matter between parents.
“Shut up, Gabriel,” Sever and I said together.
Gabriel shut up.
“I don't want any of them here,” Sever said. “I can observe her. I'm more than qualified to determine soul resonance.”
“Yes, but the Host would prefer an unbiased review,” Gabriel said.
Sever snatched the phone back to lean into it. “You can shove your unbiased review up your shiny ass!”
I snorted a laugh.
Sever's lips twitched as he met my stare.
“If you can do the same thing that some Virtue can, then we don't need them,” I said.
“Thank you.” Sever sighed.
“But—” Gabriel started.
“You heard the Queen, Gabriel,” Sever cut him off. “Thanks for the call. Now, fuck off!” He swiped the crystal and shut the scry phone. Then he smiled at me.
“That feel good?” I asked.
“Really good.” He reached for me.
“Oh, heaven no!” I held up a hand and stepped back. “I'm still annoyed with you. You don't get to celebrate your win over the Angelic Host with a little post-argument sex.”
I wasn't about to mention that I had just had something similar with Kill.
Sever's face slid into a version of Angelic-puppy-dog.
I snorted. “You haven't even apologized.”
“I'm so sorry for doubting you.”
“Nope. It doesn't count if I had to prompt you!” I pointed at him. “Why don't you go evaluate our daughter and think about what you did?”
Severriel raised a tawny eyebrow. “Did you just use a mom-line on me?”
“Yup. Act like a child, get treated like one.” I sauntered out of the room.
“Aw, fuck me,” Sever muttered.
“No means no!” I called back.
