“What?” I whispered.

“Yes.” He grimaced. “I'm not pleased.”

“That sounds like the Call of Danu,” Killian said.

“Well, Anu is her brother,” Star drawled.

“I will never escape him,” Sever whispered.

“Of course not,” Star said. “He'sGod. He's everywhere. Anu is probably listening to us right now. And he loves you. He loves you more than others. We're special to him, and that comes with a price. You've paid it, sure, but then he gave you more.” Star shook his head. “I don't know why I'm trying to explain Anu. I don't have any more insight than you do. But I do know there's no escaping him. That word doesn't even apply to him.”

Sever sighed. “You truly don't want this either.”

“I do, but I don't. You understand?”

Sever looked at me. “More than you know.”

“I'm not sure if I should be insulted by that,” I said.

“If you're finished hashing out your relationship issues, maybe you'd like to hear what we've found?” Extinguisher Connor Teagan drawled as he strode down the hallway to us.

Chapter Thirty-Four

“He's gone to Seoul?” I whined.

“Damn it,” Killian growled. “It will be even harder to find him there.

“Not when we have his face and name,” Hunter Chung-ae said. “Seoul is one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world. There are cameras everywhere.”

“Then why go there?” I asked.

“He's been building a lab in Seoul,” Alexis said. “I couldn't get an exact location, but I saw the work being done. It's in a house in a prestigious neighborhood. Lee Dae-hyun has been using his new wisdom in more ways than we realized.”

“He's been amassing a fortune through the stock market,” Alex said. “He's got millions already. Enough to fund his research forever.”

“And hire himself some muscle,” Alexis added. “There's more than a lab waiting for him in Seoul; there's an army.”

“We've notified the Councils,” Hunter Mi-cha said. “And there's a hunter house in Seoul as well. The team is expecting us.”

“The Human Council House is here,” Extinguisher Connor Teagan said. “But the Council has an apartment building there. We have use of two floors.”

“An entire building?” Star asked. “That's convenient.”

“It was an investment,” Teagan said. Then he smirked. “A good one.”

“All right. Let's go up there tonight,” I said. “I want to get a look at things so I can laruk home when I need to.”

“It's a short drive,” Hunter Do-hun said. “About half an hour. Why don't we eat first? I think we could all use some refreshment.”

I looked from Sever to Killian.

They looked at each other, then at Star.

“I don't have to go along,” Star said. “But I would appreciate some help with . . . this.”

“All this time, you've been struggling, and I've just been ignoring you. I'm so sorry, Star,” I whispered.

Star's stare softened. “I don't blame you. Frankly, it never occurred to me that this could be Anu's doing. I thought . . .” He shook his head. “I felt very guilty for what I thought.”
