“Huh,” I said. “Interesting.” I glanced at the laptop screen and saw what I expected, the fairies dealing with the Waterward. As soon as that was down, the electric fence was toast. I just had to keep this asshole distracted until that happened. “You may be onto something there.”
Lee Dae-hyun sauntered over to me. “I know it won't hold forever.” He started pushing my table toward a wall. “But we will be long gone by the time—” He flinched, then looked back at the laptop. “They destroyed my ward!”
A boom sounded.
Lee Dae-hyun motioned at the wall and a portion of it crumbled away to reveal a tunnel. He started to push me through it.
The door in the opposite wall came blasting inward.
Lee Dae-hyun abandoned me and ran for the tunnel. As soon as he was in, he motioned again, and the wall sealed up.
“Twilight?!” Killian shouted.
“Here!” I called. “He's using a tunnel hidden in that wall there.” I jerked my chin toward the wall. “Hurry! He's on the run!”
The hunters ran forward as the wall crumbled again, this time forming a much larger hole. The passage was revealed and the whole team, including the extinguishers and two Demons, went running into it. My husbands and Star, however, ran to me.
“Are you all right?” Sever asked as he yanked the chains apart, steel creaking before cracking.
“I'm fine,” I said. “The worst he did was stab me in the leg with a scalpel.”
“He's a dead man,” Star growled and ran into the tunnel.
Killian and Sever shared a grim look at that while Killian unlocked my manacles with a universal key.
“Hurry!” I urged them.
As soon as I was free, I jumped off the table and ran into the tunnel. It twisted around a corner, the sound of running feet echoing back to me. I ran around the corner, down the tunnel, and came to a round space with no ceiling. Below that opening stood the extinguishers. They watched and waited.
I didn't wait. I shot up through the opening using my Air beag, then paused, searching the sky.
“Seren!” Killian shouted.
Then he was up there with me, Sever arriving seconds later, his wings beating the air. I didn't even glance at them. My stare was locked on the returning hunters. When they got close enough, I cursed. Their expressions said it all. That and the fact that Lee Dae-hyun wasn't with them. There was, however, a furious King of Hell.
Chapter Thirty-Three
The hunters had been wearing masks in case Lee Dae-hyun misted them, but they never got close enough to get hit. They reached the end of the tunnel too late. Didn't even get a glimpse of their target. Still, they tried. They had scattered in all directions to give chase, but none of them were successful.
Lee Dae-hyun was in the wind. Literally. There was nothing for us to do but go back to his villain hide-out and see what we could find.
“We have his name. That's something,” Killian said.
“Is it his real name?” I asked. “He offered it so easily.”
“I don't think he expected you to live.”
Sever growled. Just growled.
“I'm glad you didn't scry the others,” I said.
“We didn't have the time,” Kill said. “As soon as we came to, we went after you.”
“One of the extinguishers managed to make a distress call before he passed out,” Star said. “We found the wreckage before they recovered.”
“What about the humans?” I asked. “Any witnesses to the accident? And the Police?”
“It's all handled, Your Highness,” Torquil said.
