Medea took a shaky breath and nodded. “Sorry 'bout that.”
“We all go a little mad when it comes to love.”Do not look at Star. Do not look at Star. Do not—aw, fuck. And he was looking at me. I dragged my stare back to Medea.
“I've got to see this finished, Seren,” she said.
“I do as well. Shall we get to it?”
Medea nodded. “Let's go get that asshole.”
Chapter Thirty-One
“You seem . . . very interested in that extinguisher,” Sever said to me thirty minutes later as we drove around the city.
“Which one?” I asked with a wink at the two extinguishers who had joined our group.
They grinned back at me.
“You know which one, Seren.” Sever glanced at the extinguishers, then frowned at me. “Are you really that impressed with bilocation? It's not even true bilocation. He just sends part of his spirit out his body.”
“True bilocation, with multiple bodies, is impossible,” I said.
Sever just stared at me.
“It's an impressive talent, Sever. Extinguisher Connor Teagan was a sort of hero to me and my friends when I was training to be an extinguisher. To meet him is just, well, it's kinda cool.”
“Kinda cool?”
“Aw, let her get her fan girl on,” Killian said. “It doesn't mean anything. He's kinda like a celebrity to her.”
“A celebrity? You are married to kings and are the chosen one of the Gods.”
“I like how you stuck kings in there first,” I drawled.
“And left out the princes,” Killian added. “Which you are one of.”
“Forget I mentioned it,” Sever huffed.
“At least you're over Star,” I muttered.
“Twilight,no oneis over Star,” Killian said with a hard look back at me from his passenger seat in the front of the van.
“I'm never getting married,” Extinguisher Rory Kavanaugh muttered.
“I'm with you, man.” Extinguisher Liam Sloane fist-bumped him. “Too complicated.”
“Most people don't have multiple spouses,” I said. “That's the complicated part.”
“I don't know. I've been around other married couples and it's always the same thing.” Kavanaugh mimicked a woman's voice to ask, “Are you looking at her?” Then he dropped it to normal. “Why would you ask me that? Of course, I'm looking at her. I have eyes and she's standing in front of me. Should I walk around with my eyes shut?”
Sloane chuckled. “He's so right. One spouse or fifty, it's all the same. You guys are constantly worried about your spouse cheating on you.”
“There is no worry between us,” Sever declared. “That is not what this is about.”
“Then why are you giving her a hard time, man?” Sloane asked.
“Because I'm insulted.”
“What?” I asked along with the extinguishers.
