“Animals?”
“No. Women. He likes to . . . no. No, I'm not sharing this with you, Twilight. It's too much. Just know that I'm killing this bastard. I don't care if the Human Council approves an extinguishment order or not. He's a fucking dead man walking.”
“They'll approve it. Your testimony alone will ensure that.”
“Yeah. They'll accept my vision as proof. But I'm not handing this off to the Wild Hunt.”
“All right. We will be the hunters this time.” I held out my hand.
Kill took my hand, weaving his fingers with mine. “His thoughts are clear despite how fucked up they are. He's not after more power. Well, not exactly.”
“Then what does he want?”
“Immortality.”
“Aw fuck,” I muttered. “Humans and their desire to live forever.”
“You gotta admit, immortality is pretty cool.” He gave me a lopsided grin.
The smile was forced, but I smiled back. I knew Killian was trying to protect me by not telling me what this man did to women, but it left me with my imagination. And I had a wild imagination that was running even more wild under the shadows in my husband's eyes.
“What's his plan, Killian?” I asked. “Did you get it?”
“Just the general idea.” He hung his head. “He's been taking more Kumihos as an experiment. To see what he could gain with more pearls.”
“And did he gain anything?”
“I don't know. The button didn't give me that. But it must not have worked because he's moving on to other experiments.”
“Other experiments?”
“That woman is dead, babe. If not now, she will be soon. He's going to try to extract her pearl instead of swallowing it. He thinks he may be able to create an immortality elixir if he collects enough pearls and condenses their magic before injecting himself with it.”
“Extract? Like surgically remove it? That shouldn't be possible.”
“He thinks it is, and he has a vast amount of knowledge at his disposal.”
“Fuck. Do you know where he is?”
“I got glimpses from the memories attached to the button, but they were scattered and general. Walls. Doors. No street signs or anything I could use to find that fucker. And honestly, I don't know if he's in the same place that he . . . did those other things.”
“It's all right, babe.” I slid my arm around his waist and leaned into him. “You did good.”
Killian just stared straight ahead, his jaw clenching.
“It's not over yet.” I pulled out my phone and pulled up a number.
Kill looked over as it went through. He nodded. “Yeah, we need someone stronger than me.”
“Babe, come on. You're plenty strong.”
And then the call went through.
“I can't get his location, Seren,” Alexis Murdock (previously Kavanaugh) said by way of answer.
“Why not?” I demanded.
“The pearls are hiding him.”
