Medea chuckled. “I wouldn't call it enthusiastic. Maybe for Kumihos, it was enthusiastic, and I just didn't realize it.”
“They are the most traditional of all the fey in this area,” Hunter Mi-cha said. Then she looked at Hunter Ji-woon. “You haven't told them what you are.”
“I'm a Horangi,” Hunter Ji-woon said with a wolfish grin at Star.
“Why are you smiling at me like that?” Star asked.
“Oh,” I said with wide eyes, then snorted a laugh. “But you don't, really.”
“No, but it's funny, yes?” Ji-woon waggled his brows at me.
Kill scowled as Daxon and Raza chuckled, then his expression cleared, and he said, “Oh! Right!” He started laughing. “I forgot about that.”
“What?” Star demanded.
“Would you like to tell him?” I asked the hunter.
“Oh, yes.” Ji-woon grinned at Star, flashing sharp canines, then said, “Horangi are tiger-shifters. We're very good at mimicking voices. Humans say we steal souls, but that's not true. Mainly, we trick people into getting lost in the mountains so we can eat them.”
“Okay,” Star drawled. “You eat humans.”
“And Demons,” Hunter Ji-woon added.
Star blinked.
Nassar and Apitron leaned back in their seats.
Hunter Ji-woon hooted with laughter. “Don't worry, Demons. That's just a myth too. We didn't even know about your existence until recently, so how would we know to eat you? Besides, I prefer chicken to red meat. I don't even eat humans these days.”
“These days?” Star asked.
“Dude, stop asking questions that no one wants the answers to,” Killian whispered.
A knock stopped any further conversation. Everyone went serious as Hunter Kyung-soo went to answer the door. He returned with two more Demons and shot an amused look at Hunter Ji-woon.
“It's like a buffet,” Hunter Ji-woon declared.
Chapter Twelve
The room was already crowded, what with our guards. When the new Demons entered, there was a shuffle as those standing around the dining table made room.
“Your Majesty,” one of the Demons said immediately, completely ignoring Hunter Ji-woon's odd declaration. “He took a fairy.”
“What? A Kumiho?” Star growled and stood up. “He took her? How? Why didn't you stop him?”
“He had magic, Sire! Fairy magic,” the second Demon said. “He used it against the Kumiho, then flew away with her. We tried to follow, and he blasted us with Water, then froze us in place. He knew we were watching. And he knew the best way to stop us.”
Star looked at me. “He has fey magic.”
“Power.” I looked at Tiernan. “The power they gain is elemental magic?”
“Yes. And knowledge of the sky, land, and people.”
“Knowledge of people,” I murmured and looked back at Star. “That's how he knew your men were watching.”
“But what does that mean exactly?” Star asked Tiernan. “He just looks at someone and knows about them?”
“I don't know how it works, but I assume it's something akin to an extinguisher's ability to see auras.”
