Suddenly, I asked, “Do you know what happened to my wraith?”

Why hadn't I asked Death sooner?

Death didn't answer.

“Tell me!”

“I can't be sure.”

“Damn it, tell me!”

Rath swung open the door, looked left and right, then scowled at me. “Who are you talking to?”

“Death,” I admitted. Because at least with my lovers, I didn't have to hide him.

Rath grimaced. “I was wondering when he'd make another appearance.”

But before I got into Death and forgot about it yet again, I had to tell them about my wraith. “There's something I have to tell you and Xae. And Kel too.”

“Then it's a good thing I'm here,” Keltyr said.

Rath stepped aside to reveal Xaedren and Kel sitting on the couch near the fireplace. I went into the suite and closed the door behind me.

“So, Death is back?” Kel asked.

“I never left,” Death said.

“Fuck,” Kel muttered. “I'm never going to get used to that.”

“Oh, you're going to talk to everyone now?” I asked Death. “Again?”

“I think I should be a part of the conversation and not just lurk on the sidelines.”

“Very well,” Rath said. “First, what do you need to tell us, Ember?”

“It's not a big deal. And I haven't been trying to keep it a secret or anything, I swear. I just keep forgetting to tell you or it ends up being the wrong time.”

“What did you do?” Xaedren growled.

“Nothing,” I said defensively and plopped into a chair across from him. “Nothinglately.”

“So what did you doin the past?”

“When I was imprisoned by the Corrupter, just before he stabbed me, I tried to use my wraith on him.”

“You didwhat?” Rath asked as he sat in the chair to my right.

“He sent his wraith into Aranren,” Death said.

“Who the fuck is Aranren?” Kel asked.

“The Corrupter,” I said.

“Huh. It's a rather nice name for such an evil bastard.”

“What happened when you used your wraith on him?” Xae demanded.

“It rushed into him and didn't come out,” I admitted.
