He grunted.
“Was that a yes grunt or a no grunt?” Kel asked.
“A yes grunt,” I said.
Xae grinned at me.
“Yeah, I know your grunts,” I said, then made a face. “That didn't come out right.”
Keltyr snickered. “Oh, I think it came out just as it should have.”
I rolled my eyes and went back to eating. “Oh, uh, Kel, I know you don't think there should be rules on love, but this is a unique situation and—”
“No rules? You just want to fuck him,” Xae growled at Kel.
Keltyr held up his hands. “I'm fine with rules.”
“Xae, Kel has been very respectful,” I said. I had a flash of him respecting me on the grass and cleared my throat. “Can you not give him a hard time?”
Xaedren grunted.
“I'm thinking that's a 'for now' grunt,” Kel said.
Xae's lips twitched. “You learn fast.”
Before Kel could up with something witty that would irritate the shit out of Xae, I said, “Anyway, we're working on rules for my dating. So far, we only have one.”
“Yeah? What's that?” Kel asked.
I cleared my throat again. “No sex until I'm at least starting to fall in love.”
“You want me to spread the word?”
“Uh, no.”
“But shouldn't your other suitors know that they won't be getting any until you feel it's right? It's kind of sweet, you know? And very un-slutty.”
“Great.” I rolled my eyes. “I'm so relieved I'm not a slut. But I have no other suitors.” Oh, fuck, did I just look at Jath?
“You can have them both. I don't understand why you're being like this,” Death drawled.
It was so weird for it to sound as if he were sitting there with us, and yet no one else could hear him. And it was really annoying that I couldn't reply.
“As much as it's nice to hear you say I'm your only suitor, I meant your otherpotentialsuitors.” Keltyr winked at me.
Rath leveled a hard stare at Kel. “You do know that if you join us, you'll have to be faithful to him?”
“Is that another of your rules?” Keltyr lifted a brow.
“No, it's . . .” Rath trailed off.
I met Rath's wide-eyed stare of epiphany and said, “That's one of the things I'm worried about. What if I fall in love with a Lord, and they just take the power I give them, then go be with someone else?”
“Well, if I don't have to stay with you, I'll gladly fuck you, kid,” Nex said. “How about we go out tomorrow?”
“Nex,” Rath growled.
“What?”
