Cyn bared his teeth. “I will tear them to fucking pieces.”

“We have to kill Alcha first. He's the one wearing the relic.”

“We will,” Cyn vowed. “I will get us out of this, Mate.”

“And I will help you.”

His lips twitched up into a quick smile. “Together then.”

“Always.”

“Hey, the King just looked at his mate!” Tla said.

All three of the Shanba glared at us.

“Come here, King Cynric,” Alcha said.

Cyn's expression instantly went blank, his green eyes flashing with paler green lights, and I knew we were fucked.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

I had been hoping Alcha would come to us. Then we could have killed him before he ordered Cyn to do something. But Cyn wouldn't be able to use my daggers now. He was back under the Shanba's command.

So now what?

“What were you doing with Ru'din?” Alcha asked.

“Freeing him and handing him weapons,” Cyn answered immediately.

“Fuck!” I hissed as I pulled my hands free of the manacles and started running.

For Alcha.

Alcha looked my way.

Precious seconds was all I had. Everything seemed to slow. It took me forever to cross the space between us. I glanced at Cyn. Alcha's mouth opened. I swerved to the side.

Instincts were a wondrous thing.

“Restrain your mate!” Alcha ordered.

Cyn dropped my daggers and lunged for me seconds after I had veered right. I bounded around him, but that took me to the other end of the table, opposite Alcha. Oh, well. I could adapt. I drove my knife into the base of Tla's neck, severing his spine and killing him instantly.

“Get him under control!” Alcha roared as he stood up.

Yanu, sitting between Alcha and Tla, fumbled backward and fell out of his chair. He scurried out of my way as I headed for Alcha. Just as I reached the High Priest, Cyn grabbed me around the waist. I bucked wildly, but I didn't want to hurt him, so my knives were useless. I lifted one to throw at Alcha.

“Disarm him!” Alcha shouted.

Cyn grabbed my wrist and wrenched it until I dropped the knife. I lifted my other hand. He let go of my waist, letting me fall to my feet, and reached for my other hand. I twisted and turned, kicked out at his knee, and sent my mate stumbling.

“That is enough!” Alcha snarled. “King Cynric, kill Ru'din!”

Cynric came to a shuddering stop. His body tensed under my cloak. Twitched. I backed away, searching for the exit. It was on the other side of the cavern.

“Kill him now!” Alcha pointed at me.

Cynric took a step forward.
