It wasn't Kimu.
“Whoa,” Huso said as Neb cringed back. “You know it's still winter out here, right?”
“Oh. Shit. Sorry, boys. I thought you were Kimu,” I said. “Come on in. Just give me a minute to get dressed.”
The boys came in, locking the door behind themselves because they were Raltven and sons of the Forgotten. I hurried to my trunk and pulled out some clothes as Cyn strode by me and went to the kitchen.
“Have you found anything?” Cyn asked as he handed the boys the leftover cookies we had for dessert the night before.
Huso snatched the cookies, handed one to Neb, then said, “Yes, but I don't know if it's important.”
“What did you learn?” I asked as I joined them.
Another knock came.
“Now that's gotta be Kimu.” I went to the door. “Kimu, is that you?”
“Yeah. You done fucking the King's brains out?”
I unbarred the door and waved him in. “I'll never be done with that, but the mating is finished.”
“Congrats!” Kimu handed Cyn a mug of coffee while I locked the door. Again.
“Thank you,” Cyn said. “And thank you for keeping us fed during our mating despite my behavior. You are a staunch friend.”
“Oh, it was nothing. You fed me too. I was getting free meals.” He handed me a bag of breakfast pastries, then took one off the top and bit into it.
“I fed you too?” Cyn grabbed a pastry out of the bag.
“I told him to buy himself food when he got ours,” I explained. “And I paid him with your money.”
“Oh.” Cyn shrugged. “It's your money now too. Spend it as you like.”
Kimu widened his eyes at me.
“I love him,” I said to Kimu.
“Oh, all right then.”
“What's the problem?” Cyn asked. Then he bit into his pastry and groaned.
“Telling a thief your money is his is asking for trouble,” Huso said between bites of his cookie.
Neb nodded.
“I want all the trouble Ru can give me.” Cyn pulled me in against his side.
I grinned wickedly at him. “You've got it.”
“Whoa,” Neb said.
Huso looked at his friend in shock.
Neb shrugged.
“What are you two doing here?” Kimu asked Neb and Huso.
“We got info for the King,” Huso said.
