“What?” I scowled at him as I went to take Rain's empty seat. “He wouldn't dare. Besides, he doesn't have the authority.”

“I have to agree with Amara,” Kyrian said. “Colton would sooner replace Alex than fire us.”

“Even after he learns that you would have murdered a prisoner?” Cyprian countered.

I considered it, then nodded. “I believe that we're worth enough to the President that he'd overlook it. Especially under these circumstances.”

“Honestly, I'm shocked that Alex wasn't with us on the Bishop thing,” Jason said. “I thought he was our friend.”

“He is, but there are certain lines he isn't willing to cross,” I said. “It's irritating in this case but also admirable.”

“I saw his aura, Se Esaria,” Cyprian said grimly. “He was livid. I don't know if our friendship will be strong enough to stop him from requesting that F.E.A.R. be terminated.”

“If he didn't want us to kill Bishop, he's not going to kill us,” Jason huffed.

“He means our contract, you moron.” Lily slapped Jason's arm.

“Oh.” Jason blinked. “Yeah, okay.”

“Where's Braxis?” I asked suddenly.

“He's outside patrolling,” Malik said as he returned to the kitchen without Talon. Then he looked pointedly at Davorin.

“Ah, I see,” I murmured.

Davorin had been unusually quiet, and I finally realized why. I'd completely forgotten about our fight over Braxis. It felt petty now. Silly. Davorin had every right to be angry with Braxis for what he'd done. We might not be lovers, but Dav and I were friends, and I would have felt the same way if someone had abused him and then been welcomed into his home. I shouldn't have kicked Dav out as I had.

“Davorin.” I leaned across the table and offered him my hand. “I'm sorry.”

“Aw, fuck, Mara,” Davorin muttered as he took my hand and rubbed his thumb over the top of it. “You don't have to apologize. I shouldn't have been such a jerk.”

“I was a jerk too. You're my friend, and I got mad at you for being true to that friendship. I was wrong.”

“So was I. I should have had more trust in your opinion. After all, you see Braxis more truly than I ever could.”

“So we're good?”

“We're good.” Dav grinned.

“Good,” Jason said. “Cause you guys fighting was giving me anxiety.”

“You're such a dweeb.” Lily rolled her eyes at Jason.

“At least you wouldn't get a hairball from kissing me,” Jason shot back.

The kitchen went silent.

Jason wasn't the type to insult another supe like that, especially when he wasn't there to defend himself and the conversation had nothing to do with him. Which could mean only one thing—he was upset about Rain. In particular, the prospect of Rain and Lily. I saw the exact moment Lily came to the same conclusion. Her irritation shifted into shock, then consideration, all while a flush crept up Jason's neck.

“Not that you'd be kissing me,” Jason stammered, digging himself deeper.

“How do you feel about sharing?” Lily asked.

“What?” Jason squeaked.

“I'm considering a new lifestyle,” Lily drawled. “If Amara can do it, why not me?”

“You... are you asking me to have a threesome with you and Rain?” Jason gaped at her.
