“Look at it!” Talon hissed and pointed at the sphere. “Does that look like something a human made?”
Everyone went still. There was an odd look to the thing. Most of it was painted white but the inside of the receptacle that collected the magic—the little indent where the vials went—showed the bare metal and it had a strange sheen to it with a pink hue.
“I was a little surprised at the technology, but I hadn't considered that it could be alien,” I confessed. “Why would an alien need to take someone's magic?”
Talon lifted his brows at me. “You must be very powerful if you can ask that question.”
“You're saying that supes helped this motherfucker steal magic from other supes?” Jason waved a furious hand at the machine.
“They did,” Kyrian confirmed as he inspected it. “This is hunuin.”
Malik cursed and Cyprian grimaced. The rest of us looked confused.
“Hunuin is a metal found only on Vimm,” Cyprian explained.
“The Meren planet?” I asked in surprise.
“Yes.” Kyrian looked up. “It's valued for the way it reacts to energy. Several uses have been found for it and it appears that stealing magic has been added to that list.”
“We can't let this get out,” Malik growled.
“None of it,” Cyprian agreed. “But we also can't destroy the machine yet. We don't know if hunuin is the key to this machine functioning or not. It could be a combination of things but whatever it is, we need to figure it out so we can find who made this thing, kill them, and destroy their research.”
“Where's that scientist?” Talon growled.
“He's in custody,” Alex said absently as he stared at the machine. “Don't worry about him; he's not going anywhere.”
“I'm not worried; I just want to talk to him.” The Fury grinned maliciously.
“We need him alive,” I said to Talon.
“I won't kill him.” His grin turned even more wicked. “Not until he tells us who made this thing.”
“Bishop will be questioned properly,” Alex declared. “We're taking him with us.”
“That human took magic from my consort,” Kyrian said coolly. “He's not making it off this island alive.”
The room went quiet as everyone except Alex nodded in agreement.
“Now you're talking about murder!” Alex shouted. “You are agents of the—”
“We aren't in America,” Kyrian cut him off. “And he didn't just take Amara's magic, he also tried to instigate a sexual assault on her by vicious supernatural criminals.”
Alex looked uncomfortable. He was a good friend, and I knew he wanted Bishop to pay for what he had done to me, but Alex was also a good agent.
Malik declared, “Bishop dies tonight, but not before we get everything out of him.”
The Fury grinned wider.
“How will you know if he tells you everything?” Rain asked. “Maybe we should interrogate him properly.”
“Don't worry about it, furball,” Jason said as he smacked Rain's shoulder. “I've got it under control.”
Rain scowled, and Talon looked at Jason suspiciously.
“We are not murdering Magnus Bishop,” Alex declared. “Veritas will interrogate him, and then we're taking him to America to be tried in a supe court.”
“Okay, Alex,” Cyprian said.
