I was about to reach for their auras when a shriek pierced the sounds of fighting. The men before Rain cringed but stood their ground. That is until someone came barreling through them like a battering ram.

“Sweet Danu,” I whispered.

It was the Fury and behind him came a horde of supes who seemed to have reached the same conclusion that the group before us had—better to share than fight.

The Fury bared his teeth at Rain and spread his leathery wings. The claws on his fingertips extended as I watched, and he slid a vicious look my way. But his aura made me pause. I've heard that rape is more about domination than desire, but this was a unique situation. These men weren't above hurting me, obviously, but mainly, they just wanted sex. Their auras were drenched in blood-red lust. But not the Fury's. Rain snarled, but before he could lurch forward to attack the Fury, the Fury spun and shrieked.

The shriek of a Fury is similar to Leo's sound wave magic; it can physically injure and be directed at specific targets. The men in front of the Fury screamed and fell to their knees, bleeding from their ears. They weren't dead, but their pain gave the Fury and Rain a chance to sweep forward and start changing that.

I snapped out of my shock and while they fought, I latched onto every aura in the room, with exception to those of the men defending me, of course. I yanked on the lust in those auras and drank it down. Power and pleasure rushed through me. So much of both that I felt drunk. I swayed on my feet but managed to remain standing as the rest of the prisoners fell to their knees, gasping as I drained them into unconsciousness.

Rain and the Fury scowled in confusion but didn't hesitate; they slashed their claws through the necks of every man they could reach. Blood flowed over the cement floor and bodies started to pile up. The men strode forward as if they'd continue their massacre.

“Stop!” I shouted.

Rain turned to stare at me in shock. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

The Fury merely cocked his head at me—an almost bird-like gesture.

“I drained their lust,” I said as I waved a hand out to the piles of passed out men. “They're no longer a threat.”

“Holy fuckballs,” Rain whispered in Dralmarin. “Are you Faulin too?”

“I'll explain it later. Just leave them be,” I continued in English so the Fury could understand me as well.

“They were going to rape you!” Rain waved at the men.

“And you believe that warrants an execution? Leave them be, Rain.”

“Amara!” Rain growled.

“Do you really want to kill all those men while they're unconscious? It's murder now, not defense, and certainly not justice.”

The Fury grimaced at Rain. “It does lack honor to kill defenseless men.”

“Fuck! Fine,” Rain growled and crossed his arms petulantly.

The Fury chuckled and started climbing over bodies, heading back to his cell.

“Hey!” I shouted after the Fury.

He paused and turned to lift a sharply arched brow at me.

“Thank you. I won't forget what you did,” I said in Furinian.

He blinked in surprise and replied in kind, “You're welcome.”

“What was that about?” Rain asked.

“Courtesy,” I said. Then I went to him and pulled him into a hug.

Rain had defended me when he knew he'd likely die doing so. He'd done it without hesitation and had even stood firm against a Fury. A Fury! And he hadn't faltered, not once.

Rain's arms wrapped around me, enclosing me in silken fur and warmth. His head bent over mine and a soft purr vibrated against my cheek. It was one of the best hugs I've ever had.

“Thank you,” I said softly as I stepped back.

“For what?” He stared at me as if mesmerized.
