“I know.” He squeezed me harder. “You don’t have a mean bone in your body that I’ve seen, so I know it’s just the reaction to something so new and outside your previous experiences.”

“And I don’t really think there’s anything wrong with being a little either, it’s….” I couldn’t explain myself and it frustrated me.

“Okay, so here’s a thing. Mal is a Daddy Dom who adores Jamie. Both Jamie the paralegal and Jamie the little boy whom he has to chase out of the sandbox in the backyard because Jamie loves it so much.”

I nodded and smiled, because I could understand that.

“But today, something I said about Daddies and littles sounded a bit… prejudiced maybe. I was quick to say that it wasn’t something that was… for me.” He stroked Tonya’s face with his fingers. “I apologized, of course, and Mal laughed at me. We’ve been friends for a long time. But the thing is….” He trailed off again and sucked his bottom lip between his teeth, then worried it in a way that made me want to tug it free again.

“What?” I whispered when he didn’t continue.

He opened his mouth slightly, releasing the poor lip, then looked at me with what I thought could’ve been almost-trepidation. “I think I’d be interested in trying that sort of thing out. But the thing is, Bear, I’d need a little for that.”

I blinked a couple of times. “I mean, there’s plenty of littles in the community…?”

Luke smiled slightly. “Yeah, there is. You’re right.”

He put Tonya onto my lap and lifted his arm, then leaned forward to grab his coffee. “I’m going to make myself some cocoa. Do you want some?”

“Uh… sure?”

He took my mug too and went into the kitchen. I sat there, feeling weird. Something was off, but I didn’t know what exactly.

I listened to the sounds of him taking out the necessary items and tried to figure things out.

“Bear?”

“Uh, yeah?”

“I know you had a slave contract with Carl, but is that something you want now?”

“I don’t think so, why?” I moved to the end of the couch so I could peer over toward the kitchen.

I heard him whisking, the metal of the whisk hit the sides of the pan he was using. “But you like serving, right?”

“Yeah, it’s the… I don’t know. There were many things about Carl that I didn’t like, but it wasn’t what I expected.” Or what we’d talked about before we met offline, but I wasn’t going to say that.

“I know I said we’d only be roommates, but I think I need to ease back into the scene. Would you be open to a trial run of a D/s dynamic between us?”

My heart almost stopped. I found myself smiling widely. “Really?”

“Yeah, I mean, if it’s something you’d like. You staying here isn’t contingent on this at all.” He whisked again. The subtle scent of cocoa drifted to the living room.

“Uh, Sir? I am not allowed treats today.”

Luke’s warm laughter carried with the chocolatey scent. “This isn’t a treat; it’s a drink, Bear.”

“Oh, okay.” I was pretty sure it was a loophole, but if Sir said it was fine. “I mean, I just called you Sir in my head, so I guess that’s my answer?”

I could hear him filling the mugs and turning the stove off. Then he came back with two mugs, smiling widely. He looked stunning when he smiled.

“Good, I’m glad.” He gave me my mug and sat down carefully. “We can figure out what works for us, but I think a lot of it might be domestic stuff. Servitude without the full power exchange. I’ll email you a basic checklist tomorrow, so we know what to expect. We don’t need a contract, I don’t think, but we can agree to do a weekly check in to see how things are going.”

That sounded so good. “That sounds so good.”

He took a sip of the cocoa so I followed suit. It was really good.

“I like this.”
