“I’m in Birmingham, we just got into town about a few hours ago. I’m walking around town with Pip.” He could hear a muffled voice in the background. “Pip says hi.”

“Tell him hi back.” Denny smiled. “How has the tour been so far?”

She launched into an explanation of the UK leg of the tour, and he listened to her while navigating a suburb to get to the grocery store. The place was next to an outdoorsy shop where he always got his essentials for the cabin.

“Okay, I’m parking the car,” he finally said.

“All right, well you call me if you need me, okay?” She sounded worried, which he felt like alleviating, so he said the only thing that came to mind.

“Don’t worry, honey, Jo will be there.”

She made a curious little sound before saying, “Still. If you need me, I’m here unless I’m on stage.”

“Duly noted. Have fun!”

“Talk to you later, bye.”

Denny went to stock up on essentials, trying his best to remember what he had at the cabin. Every time he went back there, he lamented his lack of organization. If he’d been smart, he would’ve made a list.

He was staring at the different types of eggs on the shelf when his phone buzzed.

Remember to get something for the bugs, we burned the last citronella candles last time. And you still owe me a lantern.

Denny chuckled. He wouldn’t have remembered the candles, but he did remember how he’d knocked Josiah’s fancy LED lantern off the porch and into the rocks beneath the time before that. It seemed like he needed to visit the neighboring store as well.
