That evening, they convened on the couch and watched too many episodes ofSchitt’s Creek. They ordered pizza and watched more of the show, then sprawled on the couch with their legs tangled in the middle and relaxed.

It felt domestic in the best way, and Josiah tried not to let his hopes get too high.

Denny drove them to the appointment the next day. The receptionist waved them in with a friendly smile. It was obvious Denny had made a friend here, not that it surprised Josiah in the least.

Dr. Jarvis greeted them in his pretty damn cool office. Both Jarvis and Denny ignored him after the initial greetings, likely knowing the effect the room had on people.

“Just pick a seat whenever you find one that pleases you and Denny and I will find ours nearby.”

Nodding absently, Josiah went through the room, smiling at a large pillow on the floor that had childlike unicorn fabric. He wondered if Dr. Jarvis saw young patients too, or if it was for comfort reasons.

Once Josiah set his mind on the swinging chair by the windows, he sat, pulled his legs up, and made himself comfortable. “I think this one,” he said quietly.

Dr. Jarvis nodded, smiling at him. “Well, I think that explains a lot.”

Denny chuckled as he plopped onto a massive bean bag chair. Dr. Jarvis turned an armchair around, grabbed his pen and notepad, and looked from Denny to Josiah.

“So, shall we?”
