Linus caught on with a smile. “And now I’m the one who’s got you,” he said, moving so he could throw his arms around me and rest his head against my shoulder. “Idohave you, Saint. However it happened, whatever it means, I’ve definitely got you.”
“You have no idea how much that means to me,” I said, gusting out a breath.
I needed more than words. Twisting so I could wrap my arms around him, I lifted my omega and planted him straddling my lap. He fit so perfectly against me that way, his perky cock resting against mine. He was tiny compared to me, but his character was so much larger than mine. I was the luckiest alpha alive to find myself bonded to him.
“How did you get so wonderful?” I asked, stroking my hands up and down his back in the hope I could spark another heat wave, even though the last one hadn’t been more than half an hour before.
Linus lowered his head bashfully and glanced up at me in that dead sexy way he had. “I’m not really that wonderful, I’m sorry to inform you. I’m just used to dealing with people and disasters.”
“No.” I shook my head. “You’re absolutely wonderful. Your heart is so good. You care about people, not just me, I can feel it. That’s extraordinary, Linus.”
“Is it?” he asked, hope fluttering in his heart.
I didn’t answer him with words. Instead, I cupped the side of his face with one hand and leaned in to kiss him soundly. It wasn’t a kiss born out of heat need. It was purely emotional and connecting. It was, arguably, our first kiss, and it was everything.
Linus’s body heated, and I was sure we were in for another round of extraordinary heat sex and probably another breeding orgasm, but a knock on the door threw cold water on everything.
“Guys, I need to talk to you,” Fenn’s voice sounded from the hallway, as if he was trying to keep it down so Lucas didn’t hear.
Linus pulled back and sighed. “I’m assuming whatever he wants to talk about is really important,” he said.
“Not as important as you,” I reassured him. “But you’re right.”
We untangled ourselves and stood, and I walked over to the door, gesturing for Linus to stay behind me. I didn’t care if my brother saw me naked, but my inner alpha didn’t want any other alphas, including the person I was closest to in the world, to gaze on what was mine.
“I’ve just heard back from the guys,” Fenn said quietly once I’d cracked the door. “They’ve got a plan and they’re on their way. Get dressed and come downstairs and I’ll fill you in on everything.”
“We’ll be there in three minutes,” I said, then nodded and shut the door. I then turned back to Linus. “Are you ready for this?”
My adorable mate looked surprised and felt indignant. “I should be asking you that question,” he said. “Are you up for this?”
I smiled, the feeling of love and amazement for my omega growing. “Yeah, I’m ready,” I said, marching over to where I’d put my clothes from the day before. “Working with the police to thwart a smuggling gang is just what I need right now to regain the feeling I’m still in control.”
Linus giggled as he pulled a pair of sweatpants and an old t-shirt from the bureau. “We’ll have to work on those other ways you like to use to stay in control once this whole thing is done.”
A rush of excitement hit me that was super inconvenient for the situation we were in. Was my good, sweet omega hinting that he might like to explore kink with me? I sure as fuck hoped so!
That all had to take a back seat as we finished dressing, then quietly made our way downstairs to where Fenn was in the kitchen again. It was still raining, but the storm had passed.
“Zane and the rest of the special investigations team have surrounded the area,” Fenn told us, still keeping his voice down, even though we were at the other end of the house from where Lucas was, presumably, sleeping off his last heat wave. “They had drones out in the storm monitoring the ocean. The Dumfries gang tried to make an approach to the beach house earlier, but they turned back presumably because of the storm.”
“Did they try to show up earlier than they told Lucas they’d be here because they wanted to beat the storm or because they wanted to catch Lucas by surprise and maybe do some sort of double-cross?” Linus asked.
“I don’t know,” Fenn said with a small shrug. “We’ll never know. But it’s damn lucky that they turned back. The guys wouldn’t have been ready. They’re just about set up now, though.”
I reached for Linus on instinct, needing to protect him. Even though I was still shaken from my memories and my body was beginning to feel the effects of my fit and the exertion of taking Linus through his heat, I was bound and determined to do anything and everything to keep my omega safe from the bad guys.
“Zane needs us to do a few things before the Dumfries gang arrives,” Fenn went on.
“What do they need us to do?” I asked.
“We’ll help in whatever way we can,” Linus said.
Fenn glanced between the two of us with a smile, but thankfully, he kept whatever he was thinking to himself. “First and foremost, they need us to get Lucas on board with baiting the trap.”
I could feel how much Linus didn’t like that. “What does that mean?” he asked.
Fenn winced and rubbed the back of his neck. “We might need to come clean about everything. We need him to initiate the exchange so that the Dumfries gang will implicate themselves enough for arrest.”
