“I knew you’d win. He’s always been too slow for you.” She says to him, looking almost cocky.
“Alyssa, your faith in me never wavers.” Cameron replies with a heartfelt grin. He turns back to me. “I’ll be two minutes, yeah?”
“Okay.”
I wait while he takes Alyssa back to the locker rooms, their conversation dying out under the noise of the crowd. Before long, he’s back though and Alyssa is nowhere in sight.
“So, who was that?” I ask, trying to keep my voice casual.
“Why do you wanna know?”
“Just wondering, man. I didn’t know you had fans.” I say elbowing him lightly in the ribs.
“Alyssa’s not a fan. We’re friends.” He shrugs it off.
I raise my hands, palms out. “Hey, you know I’m just curious. You don’t have many friends that I haven’t met before, that’s all.”
He shakes his head. “We good here?”
With a nod, I feel the tension between us ease immediately.
Clearly I’m not getting any more info than that. If she’s friends with Cam, maybe I’ll see her around.
“I’ve got to start coming to more of your matches,” I laughingly joke. Cameron claps me on the back, shaking his head with a grin
