Noticing she had our attention, she smiles and leans over a little to Asher, giving him a great show of her cleavage. I look at him and almost don’t contain a giggle. He sits with his back pressed against the wall, with his eyes pointedly on the menu in his hands. He looks so uncomfortable that I almost pity the poor man.
“I’ll have the banana caramel sundae,” I order in a fake cheery voice capturing the waitress’ attention.
“And I’ll have a triple chocolate twist.” Asher says, still avoiding eye contact with the waitress.
This time I actually did laugh, earning myself a scowl from the waitress, but with Asher smiling over at me I soon forget she’s even there. “Is there anything else?” she asks.
“No, there isn’t.” I answer, while keeping my cool.
We chat idly as we eat our ice cream. It’s not until we leave and head home that I realize this is it, the end of our date. a wave of sadness threatens to engulf me, our time together is rapidly coming to an end.
“Wait here.” Asher says as we come to a stop in front of Cam’s place.
Asher opens my door and helps me out, holding my hand as he walks me to the door. Facing each other, I lean my shoulder against the wall as I fetch my keys from my clutch.
“So, goodnight?” It isn’t supposed to come out as a question, but my nerves are starting to get the better of me. I don’t know what to do from here. I don’t want him to leave but like he pointed out the other night, there’s no need to rush anything.
“Goodnight.” He whispers while leaning in. I find myself doing the same.
Our lips meet and Asher’s arms wrap around me. In his arms, I’m filled with a warmth that kind of scares me. Because I’ve never experienced it before.
Under my palms, I feel pure muscle underneath his t-shirt. With my ear pressed into his chest just above his heart, I could also hear the strong, steady heartbeat under his skin making me realize the match in it’s quickened tempo to mine.
I move my hands, one holding him tighter and the other entwining in his soft hair as he moves me closer and holds me in position.
A full, fuzzy feeling floods me inside and out. A full, fuzzyhappyfeeling. I swear there were fireworks. I suspect that this is magic.
“Oh, hell no.” Cam’s unfortunate voice is the source of spell break.
I hold in my laugh as I step away from Asher and follow Cameron’s disgruntled mumblings into the house.
