For people that haven’t been told anything, my friends are acting stranger than normal. Katie and I weren’t ever officially a couple - despite my begging for it. She was very against taking the next step but despite that everyone knew anyway. For all I know that could have had something to do with why she broke up with me. Did our friends knowing make herthatuncomfortable? Did I push too hard for more? Or, maybe I wasn’t fighting for her hard enough?

Once again, the questions that start whirling around my mind. The truth is I really don’t know the real reason we broke up.

My eyes narrow as Natasha and Luke take the seats next to me. I guess the girls aren’t in the wedding either. I’m sure I must’ve heard Ellie mention it but I shamefully bite my lip as the recollection eludes me. Being honest, the wedding arch doesn’t look like it could shelter more than three people at a time. Natasha’s laugh draws my attention back to the second happiest couple today. They’ve got to be the cutest couple I ever saw; it makes my stomach turn uncomfortably but there’s no denying it. Tash is tiny with bouncy brunette curls, a complete contrast to Luke, who’s tall and blond with a bigger build.

I quickly divert my eyes before they notice my staring. I follow the sight of my sister and Michael as they sit across the aisle from me. Ellie wears a similar dress to Tash, she looks beautiful. Our eyes meet and she smiles over at me. She radiates happiness and seeing her like that makes my lips twitch. I’m glad things are going well for her and Michael.

The seat next to Ellie is empty, saved for Katie no doubt.

I was nowhere to be found when Gabby started talking wedding stuff. I ran and hid, like most men I know would. I had no idea what I was walking into when I pulled up at Sam’s mother's house. I never thought I would’ve been impressed by this sort of thing but I have to admit, I am, the place looks pretty damn amazing.

The garden where the ceremony is set to take place is something right out of a fairy tale. White roses are entwined with lights that hang above the rows of white-clothed chairs. It’s smaller than I expected for Gabby. She’s the first of us to get married, I automatically assumed it would’ve been a massive event. The officiant at the front of the chairs clears her throat and places some papers on a small stand. She’s wearing a light blue pantsuit and looks to be in her fifties.

The ceremony is about to start; I can feel the anticipation in the air. I try my hardest to empty my mind of everything else that’s going on in my life. I want to be here in the moment to celebrate my friend’s wedding. The music starts and everyone stands. We all turn as Gabby walks down the aisle. She’s beautiful. She truly does look like a princess straight out of a fairy-tale.

Before Gabby reaches the front of the aisle that the chairs make, I turn to look at Sam and all I can see is wonder on his face. He seems awe-struck that he’s lucky enough to be marrying a woman like Gabby. I had hoped that one day I’d look at Katie like that. Now that seems to be impossible. The ceremony begins and while my heart aches, it also fills with love and happiness for Gabby and Sam.
