I climb onto the balcony and leap into the sky, releasing my own wings as I follow her path. As we circle each other, a powerful force surges between us. It’s not just the magic. Something else is happening, something that seems to have been brewing for a while, and as we fly together, the intensity rises.
Astryl looks like a goddess, a being of myth and legend, her beauty taking my breath away. She’s radiant, captivating. In her eyes, I see an untamed wildness, a fierce desire that matches my own.
As we soar through the sky, the cityscape blurs beneath us. I don’t miss the people who stop to point and stare. It’s a sight worth seeing, two beings with wings and magical powers, the sky our domain. But in spite of the awe-inspiring setting, all I can focus on is her. The way her muscles ripple as she moves, the look in her eyes, the sound of her laughter, her voice. Everything about her has captured me.
Astryl is the flame, and I’m the moth.
I follow her, admiring the fluid grace and skill with which she flies, the sheer elegance and poise. But as I admire her, I can’t help but notice the subtle shift in her demeanor. It’s like a veilhas fallen from her features, and she’s letting me see the true her. There’s a fierceness in her eyes, a passion in her gestures, a playfulness in her smile. When our gazes meet, my heart flutters in my chest.
As much as it pains me, I tear my eyes away to look at the streets below, following the directions as I’ve memorized them from the smartphone when I researched this place earlier, before waking Astryl.
“Look there,” I point ahead, my eyes narrowing as I spot our destination. “That’s the place.”
Below us, an abandoned warehouse stands like a forgotten relic, its windows shattered and its walls marred by time and neglect. Vines creep up its sides, the surrounding area overgrown with weeds.
“It doesn’t look like anyone’s been here in years,” Astryl observes. “Where is everyone?”
“I don’t imagine the wraiths hang out here any longer than they have to,” I comment. “This is probably just a temporary location.”
“We should approach with caution,” Astryl suggests, her eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. “Who knows what we’ll find inside?”
“Agreed,” I reply, descending towards the building’s roof. “We need to be prepared for anything.”
As we land gracefully on the rooftop, our wings retract, and we shift back to our human forms. My glamour dust holds, and our clothes reappear as we take cautious steps across the roof, careful to step quietly.
“Let’s find a way in,” I say, my voice echoing softly in the empty space.
We make our way to the roof access door, which creaks loudly as I push it open. The interior of the warehouse is shrouded in darkness, the only light filtering in through the broken windowsand gaps in the walls. Dust hangs in the air, the floor is littered with debris and discarded objects.
Carefully, we make our way through the maze-like interior, our senses heightened. Every shadow seems to hold a secret, every sound a potential threat. But as we venture deeper into the warehouse, a strange sensation begins to wash over me, a tingling at the back of my mind that grows stronger with each step.
“This place looks like it has more secrets than a fae court,” Astryl mutters.
“Well, dragons are the ones known to have a treasure trove of secrets, aren’t they?” I retort with a playful smirk.
“Well played,” she concedes with a nudge. “Do you feel that?”
“Yes,” I reply, my heart pounding in my chest. “It’s like a pull, a resonance.”
We follow the sensation, navigating through the labyrinthine corridors until we come upon a large, circular chamber at the heart of the warehouse. At its center stands a portal, its swirling vortex of colors a mesmerizing blend of blues and greens, much like the hues of my Soul Sight when I use it at full strength.
“It’s beautiful,” Astryl murmurs, her eyes wide with wonder.
“Yes, but we need to be careful,” I warn, stepping cautiously towards the portal. “We don’t know where it leads.”
“But it could be a way home,” she argues.
“Or it could be a trap,” I counter, my instincts screaming at me to proceed with caution. “We need to be absolutely certain before we take any risks.”
Astryl looks at me, her eyes filled with determination. “We’ve come this far, Thaldiran. We need to see if this portal leads back to our world. It could be our only chance.”
I hesitate, torn between the allure of the unknown and the need for caution. But as I look into Astryl’s eyes, I see the same longing, the same desire for answers that has driven us thus far.
“Alright,” I finally say, taking a deep breath. “But we do it together. If anything goes wrong, we leave immediately.” I reach out my hand for hers.
She nods, her grip tightening on mine as we step closer to the portal. The energy around us intensifies, the colors swirling faster as if responding to our presence. We exchange a glance, a silent acknowledgment of the risks we’re about to take.
And then, hand in hand, we step into the unknown.
