“Wait, Achilles? Perseus, are you serious?” I question, bewildered.
“Yes, the very same. Achilles and Frida are the only ones from Rathor’s division that survived. Frida, introduce Evander to your comrades. I have things I need to attend to,” Uriel orders, then walks away.
“Yes, Sir,” Frida replies with a smart ass salute, making me grin.
Chapter 4
“Come on, I’ll introduce you to the guys,” Frida says, grabbing my arm, leading me into a huge marble and gold lined building withDivision Oneover the entrance.
“Hey, guys, I’m back and I’ve brought the new pup,” she shouts.
Walking in, I see two guys lounging about and one raises his head.
“Oh, yay, I’m jumping for joy,” he repliessarcastically before laying back down. The other guy gets up and walks over to me, stretching his arm out. I give him a firm handshake.
“I’m Evander.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Lucius. That disgruntled ass over there is Perseus,” Lucius replies.
“Where is Achilles?” Frida asks, looking around.
“He’s in a meeting with Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, discussing defensive strategies. They’re anticipating another attack,” Lucius replies, and Frida nods.
“So, Evander, have they explained everything to you?” Lucius asks.
“They said a lot, but I’m still trying to grasp the fact that I’m a were…Lycan,” I answer, looking at Frida, noticing the grin on her face.
“Good boy, see, you can learn,” she replies facetiously.
“Have they explained how the divisions are structured or the angel and demon hierarchies?” Lucius asks.
“Uriel said that the divisions are made up of five Lycans with the strongest being their commander,” I reply.
“That is true, but additionally each division has an Archangel overseeing them and Uriel is ours. Furthermore, when we go into battle, we don’t send every division out. The Archangels decide which division, or divisions, are sent based on the enemy’s strength,” Lucius says.
“Lucius, you said something about the demon hierarchy—what is that?” I ask, slightly intrigued.
“That is the structure that divides the demons into different classes depending on their strength and power. The demon that you killed was a soldier demon. They are at the bottom of the hierarchy. Then it goes to demonkings, which are considerably more formidable. After that you have Archdemons.”
“What the fuck is a demon king?” I blurt, interrupting.
“A demon king is… Oh, how do I put this?” Frida sighs. “Think of Uriel without the wings and pissed off at all of existence, with pokey, stabby, cutty things that can actually kill us,” she remarks.
“Ha-ha, very funny, Frida, but you’re not too far off. They possess the same amount of power as we do, if not more. And they are accompanied by hordes of hellish creatures. Then, finally you have the Knights, and the rulers. To our knowledge, there are two separate rulers that are constantly fighting for power. You haveLucifer, the Fallen, andSatan,” Lucius states.
“I thought that Lucifer and Satan were the same thing?” I ask, puzzled. This is all so crazy.
“That is a large misconception. Lucifer, as you know, was an Archangel that rebelled against God. He and his followers were cast down from Heaven. Satan, however, ruled over Hell long before Lucifer’s fall. Lucifer still resembles an Archangel, while Satan can take many different forms; one of which looks like a man, but with curled blood-red horns, hooved feet and a long slender tail. The one time that I saw him in battle, he took the shape of a gigantic rotting dragon. It took all of the Archangels to drive him back,” Lucius answers.
“You said Lucifer and his followers were banished. Who were his followers?” I ask. This is very intriguing.
“They were the angels that followed Lucifer in his rebellion and were cast from Heaven along with him. They make up the majority of the Archdemons, also known asThe Fallen. It was one of The Fallen that corrupted Rathor and turned himagainst us. The power that they wield is equal to that of the Archangels,” Lucius replies, checking that I’m still following before continuing.
“If anything stronger than a demonic king steps onto the battlefield, then the Archangels get involved. With that being said, let’s start your training.”
Chapter 5
Walking outside to the courtyard, a rather tall stocky man is striding across the training ground toward us. Perseus jumps up and pushes past us.
