Obviously, I knew my brother was married, and I know all about Abigail Anderson, née Manning. The twins and their resurrected mother legally dropped Hearst from their last names a few years ago. I have seen pictures of her online, and I knew she was pretty, but she’s smoking hot in the flesh.
It’s late, and she’s wearing a knee-length silk robe and matching slippers. It clings to her petite frame and the shape of her curvy ass and slender hips. She’s not rocking much up front, but the peaks of her tits are poking through the silky material proving she’s got enough.
“Ow,” I exclaim, rubbing the back of my head and glaring at Kaiden.
“Knock that shit off, Zayn, or you and I will have a big problem.”
“Kai!” Abby drills her husband with an icy glare. “Please tell me you did not just hit your brother!?”
“It was only a warning slap, and he deserved it for the way he was looking at you.”
“Possessive much?” I smirk, dumping my duffel bag on the ground.
“You have no idea.” Abby shucks out of Roman’s arms and walks toward me. She’s tiny. Like a perfectly formed little doll, but there’s this fierceness about her too. It exudes from her pores and the way she carries herself, and I don’t think I’d like to get on her bad side. If she has my asshole brother pussywhipped, she’s clearly a force to be reckoned with. She holds out her hand. “I’m Abby.”
“I know who you are, and what? No hug for me?” I quirk a brow as I open my arms wide.
“Lay one finger on her, and I’ll knock you the fuck out,” Kaiden warns. I’m tempted to do it, just to wrestle with the prick. But it would upset Roman, and he’s already on edge. I don’t want to blatantly rock the boat.
“Jesus Christ, Kai. What the hell has gotten into you?” Abby asks.
He jabs his finger at me. “More like who. Try spending an extended period of time with this stubborn, ungrateful little shit and see if you don’t act the same. In case you were wondering, he’s responsible for my busted nose.”
Abby’s lips curl at the corners, and she plants her hands on her hips. “Wow, this all sounds so familiar.”
“Oh, this one has definitely inherited the asshole Anderson gene,” Drew says, materializing behind us as he drops the rest of our bags on the floor. He came with us in the car while the others dispersed at the private airfield, taking off in their own vehicles. “He’s going to give Kai andJ-Dawga run for their money,” he adds, flashing a grin. “Can’t wait for the fireworks.”
Kaiden growls, looking like he wants to level his brother-in-law.
“Down, caveman.” Abby unfurls his clenched fists.
I snort out a laugh. “This is priceless.”
“Zayn, can you not?” Roman pleads. “We talked about this. You said you were fine with coming here.”
“It’s all good, buddy. It’s better to get everything out on the table. It’s an adjustment for all of us.” Kaiden squeezes Roman’s shoulder, and this time, the growl comes from my lips.
Kai notices, instantly removing his hand from my little brother and purposely redirecting the conversation. “Got a girl, Zayn?”
Emery’s gorgeous green eyes swim behind my eyelids, and her pretty laugh echoes in my mind, but I shake my head and say, “Nope.”
“He had one,” Roman pipes up. “But he fucked it up, and now he’s all moody and shit.”
I shoot a daggered look at my brother. “So much for the bro code.”
Roman’s Adam’s apple bobs in his throat. “Kai is our brother too.”
Anger resurfaces, and I lash out. “So why don’t you tellyour brotherall about that self-serving, drug-dealing dickhead you call a boyfriend?”
“Fun, isn’t he?” Drew leans against the wall and grins at his sister.
Roman’s cheeks turn red, and I instantly regret my outburst. I didn’t mean to embarrass him. “Sorry, Ro.” I reach for him, but he moves back, and pain slams into me.
“It’s late, and everyone is tired. We have plenty of time to trade stories about our lives,” Abby says, moving into peacemaker mode. “I’m guessing you’re all hungry.” She pats Roman’s hand and smiles up at him. “How about a grilled cheese and some hot chocolate before bed?”
A lump forms in my throat as Roman’s face lights up. Guilt stabs me in the gut. I have tried to give Ro everything he needs, but I couldn’t give him this. I already know he’s going to love it here even if he currently has misgivings like me. But he wanted to try, and I owe him that much.
“Abby, why don’t you show Roman to his room, and I’ll show Zayn to his,” Kaiden suggests.
