In only those heels.
“Love really agrees with you,” Xavier adds, pulling me out of my head. “You are positively glowing, and I’m sooooo happy for you.” He hugs her again before releasing her and yanking me into a hug. “Look at you, Mr. Sexy-ass Rock Star.” He releases me and stands back a little, grinning. “Who knew our Sydney was hiding such a big secret in her closet.”
Sydney giggles as Xavier blatantly checks me out, and I don’t know what to make of the guy.
“Yep, I’d do you,” he proclaims a few seconds later. “What are your views on sharing?” He winks at Sydney. “I’m thinking the four of us could get our kink on later. What better way to celebrate after dealing with the crazies than some dick in your ass?”
Sydney convulses with laughter, clutching her stomach and bending over, while I’m tempted to tug on my ears, sure I must have heard that wrong.
“Jesus, Xavier.” Hunt drags a hand through his hair, looking slightly ruffled. “Did you have to go there? This is your first time meeting the man, and you proposition him?”
“Chill out, Hunt, before you give yourself an aneurysm. Syd and Jared know I’m only teasing, and you know I’d never share you. I’m just trying to lighten the mood.”
“Well, that was a stellar plan,” Hunt drawls. “Everyone definitely looks relaxed now.”
Syd palms one side of my face, still sporting a wide grin, with flushed cheeks and vibrant eyes, and it’s a good look on her. Xavier has managed to distract her for a few moments, and now I know he wasn’t serious, I can appreciate his wacky attempt at levity.
“You’re such a party pooper, babe.” Xavier rolls his eyes at his husband. “I can’t even say you need to get laid,” he adds, drilling him with a look. “Because you get laid plenty. Take that stick out of your ass, or I’ll bend you over the car, remove it, and replace it with my cock.”
My brows climb to my hairline as a burst of laughter rolls from Sydney’s lips. She presses her mouth to my ear. “I told you Xavier was one of a kind.”
“I see that.”
“I apologize for my business partner,” Sawyer says, stepping forward and offering me his hand. “I promise he’s professional when it counts.”
“I offer no apologies.” Xavier tosses a disgruntled look at his spouse. “I am unmistakably me.”
“And I love you for you.” Hunt’s features soften as he stares adoringly at his husband. “But we’ve discussed this.”
“Sawyer, seriously. This is Sydney. She’s practically family. You know I’m always professional with clients, but this is different.”
“It is,” Sydney agrees. “Don’t stand on ceremony on our behalf. We don’t need it.”
“It’s cool,” I offer. “I’m not offended.”
Hunt nods before turning his attention to my girlfriend. “It’s great to see you so happy. You deserve it.”
Jealousy rears its head when he leans in and kisses her on the cheek. I know Hunt is no threat, but try telling that to the caged beast who resides inside me.
I’m feral when it comes to Sydney.
If a guy even looks at her, I want to rip his eyes from his head so he can’t do it again.
“It’s good to see you, Sawyer. Love clearly agrees with you too,” she says, squeezing my hand. “We’re grateful to both of you for your help.”
“Any time, babe,” Xavier says. “It’s been an interesting investigation.”
“We look forward to hearing all about it,” I say.
“Let’s make a move,” Hunt suggests. “Your father is expecting us shortly.”
Sydney and I share a look because that’s news to us. We thought we were meeting Sawyer and Xavier for a debrief and then meeting alone with Herman and later with my mother. The guys said it was important we speak with both our living parents if we wanted full answers.
“We’ll explain on the way.” Sawyer opens the back door to a Lexus SUV with tinted windows.
As soon as the four of us are in the back, the driver takes off.
“We met with Herman last week,” Hunt says, surprising us.
