She cocked her head to the side, staring blankly at me for a few seconds before shaking her head.

She stared at me over the top of her coffee mug as she took a sip, still not saying anything. The longer

the silence dragged on, the more annoyed and impatient I became.

“Come on, Vivvie. Help me out here.”

“Why is it so important for you to fix things with him?”

“Who said I’m trying to fix something?” Great, now I was getting defensive. Like she wouldn’t

see right through that. “Fine, maybe I came down a bit hard on him when I didn’t have all the facts.”

“And now he’s pissed off at you?”

I scrubbed a hand over my hair. “Not exactly, but now that I do know about the kid, I want him to

realize his job won’t be in jeopardy if he has to call out because of her.”

Her eyes grew wide and heard jaw went slack. “Oh my God. You like this guy.”

I shrugged. “Of course, I like him. He's a good worker.”

sordid details of your sex life. But quit trying to change the subject.”

“I'm not,” I deadpanned. “You are ridiculous, and I called you out on it. Corey is a good kid. And

he's exactly that. Hell, I'm probably old enough to be his dad.”

“Or his Daddy,” Viv quipped, causing me to spew coffee everywhere. “What, you think I don't

know what you get up to at that club? Just because I don't get out often doesn't mean I’m oblivious.

Besides, unlike you, Jack was never cagey about what he was trying to build down there.”

“Good God, woman. You can't go around saying shit like that.” I wiped my mouth with the back of

my hand.

“Am I wrong?” She smirked, lifting one eyebrow at me, daring me to lie to her. “Admit it, you’re

hung up on this guy, probably wish you weren’t, and knowing he’s got a kid has hit you right in the
