“Why wouldn’t I?” What I didn’t tell him was I’d put the days in the calendar on my phone so I
knew when I could mess with him and when he was busy being a responsible parent. “Does that mean
you’re game for spending the night at my place?”
Corey groaned, his nose scrunching up adorably. “You have really bad timing. If you’d mentioned
it when you called to tuck me in last night, I would have packed a bag. I’m opening tomorrow, and
it’d suck to have to get up before the sun so I can run home.”
“You know…” I let my thought trail off. The last thing I wanted was him to think I was pushing
him. Screw it. “We could always head back to your place. That way I can see where you live, and
it’ll give me ideas of how I can help you even when I’m not there.”
Corey worried his lip between his teeth. That was progress. Every other time we’d discussed
where we’d spend the night, he immediately balked at the idea of me in his bed. “I have to leave for
work pretty early.”
“I don’t mind,” I reassured him. Hell, if he called me in the middle of the night and asked me to
sneak in through his bedroom window so his daughter didn’t know anyone had been there, I would
have agreed. I was officially stupid over this beautiful boy. “I’ll still get up to make you breakfast,
and then I can leave when you do.”
Corey’s mouth twisted and his forehead was creased. “What if…” I felt marginally better
knowing I wasn’t the only one walking on eggshells.
“What if what, sweetheart?” I combed my fingers through his hair.
“Nevermind. It was stupid.”
“Why don’t you let me be the judge of that?”
“If I packed a bag, do you think you could take it to your house with you?” My heart threatened to
pound its way out of my ribcage. He seriously had no clue how happy he’d just made me. “That way,
maybe I could come to your house and take my nap. If it’s okay with you.”
I scooped Corey into my arms, pulling him onto my lap. “Baby, I’d love nothing more. I’ve been
thinking all week about how to offer just that, but I didn’t want to change your routine.”
“I think it would be for the best,” he admitted. “That way I don’t have to worry about someone
catching us.”
“Even if someone did see us, they wouldn’t give you a hard time,” I reassured him.
“I know, but…” Corey nuzzled my neck. “But I like it better when it’s just us. When we’re in here,
