Eventually, he released me, taking the keys out of my hand. He unlocked the door and opened it

for me. When I slid behind the driver’s seat, he crouched down beside me. “Is it okay if I call you

tonight?”

Was it? I knew that if I told him I would be busy with Willow he would accept my answer. I

should probably take some time to think about what I was getting myself into without my libido

overriding my brain. But I didn’t want to make excuses for why he couldn’t contact me when we were

apart.

“I usually put her to bed by eight-thirty,” I told him.

“And what time do you go to bed?”

“Usually around midnight. Sometimes a little bit later.”

William scowled at me. “No wonder you’re always tired. When you get her down, text me. Then,

My entire body buzzed with endorphins the entire drive home. I wasn’t sure when or if I had ever

felt this alive. I sang along with the radio, tapping the steering wheel in time with the beat. At one

stoplight, I even found myself dancing to an annoyingly catchy pop song.

It was going to be a good day. I had a man who made no secret of how he felt about me. And even

better, he seemed to understand that I couldn’t give him my full attention. For once, I held out hope

that I wouldn’t be lonely and miserable for the rest of my life.

A car door slammed as I got out of my car. I turned around to see Lisa storming across the parking

lot, Willow practically running to keep up with her mother. “Where the hell have of you been?”

“Out.” And there went the good mood. I’d been so loose and relaxed, but now my shoulders felt
