“How long has she been gone?”
“I’d say twenty minutes. Is there something wrong?”
“No.”
He regards me strangely, undoubtedly finding my inquiry odd. I’ve never shown interest in a specific intern in the past.
I pivot on my heel and head back upstairs. Pepper will soon discover she’s a mouse trapped in a maze, and each endeavor towards freedom only leads to a dead end.
I showered after arriving home, then hid under my comforter. I’m staying in bed for the rest of the evening. I’m a horrible person. I let my infatuation with Dom cloud my better judgment. How can I step foot inside Stone Incorporated again? It’s too late to apply for a summer internship anywhere else. I’ll tell him it was a mistake and can’t be repeated. He’ll have to understand and respect my decision. So much was happening, I completely forgot he broke into my condo and rummaged through my personal belongings and dirty laundry. My face heats in horror at that thought. It’s time for girl talk. I grab my cell off the nightstand and ring Mia.
“Hello,” she answers groggily.
“I did something really bad.”
“You forgetting a Bible verse is not the end of the world,” she deadpans.
“Ha ha, very hilarious, but that’s not why I called.”
“What then? Did you finally kick your father in the balls?” she asks, yawning.
“Were you sleeping?”
“Yep.”
“It’s not like you to take a nap at this hour.”
“I’ve been asleep all day.”
“But it’s almost five!” I exclaim.
“I went to a rave last night and didn’t get in until six.”
“For shame, Mia—”
“Oh, hush, you remind me of Grandmother,” she grumbles. “Spill the tea.”
“I… at work… umm—”
“Pepper,” Mia says, exasperated. “Collect yourself and tell me what the hell happened.”
“I had oral sex.”
“You sucked dick!” she yells, now wide awake at my confession.
“No, he did it to me.”
“Who?”
“Dom.”
“What the fuck?” she screams, then howls in laughter.
“This isn’t funny!”
“Oh, yeah, it is.”
“What am I going to do?”
