“Are you home yet?”

“Yep, I just got in.”

“I’ve had a hell of a night.”

“Give me all the details.”

“My car broke down in the middle of an exit ramp on the way home.”

“Damn.”

“You haven’t heard the worst of it.”

“Well, don’t keep me in suspense.”

“Guess who came to my rescue but definitely wasn’t a knight in shining armor?”

“Tell me already!”

“Art.”

“No fucking way.”

“I almost pissed my pants. It was raining so hard, I didn’t recognize him until I got in his car.”

Anneli stays quiet as I tell her every single detail of tonight’s events.

“Wow, just, wow. Do you think he’ll come back?”

“Definitely.”

“What are you going to do if he does?”

“I can’t let him fuck up my life.”

“We’ll destroy him if he tries.”

It’ll take a battalion to defeat him.

“What are you going to do about your car?”

“I was wondering if you could lend me the money for a tow truck. I’ll pay it back in a couple weeks, I swear.”

“Of course. I know a good mechanic. He’s affordable and won’t cheat you.”

“You’re too good to me.”

“That’s what friends are for.”

“Okay,” I say, yawning. “I’m going to shower, then head to bed.”

“Talk to you later.”

Art is going to come at me from all angles. I need to prepare myself.

“Thank you for taking me to get my cell phone. It wasn’t exactly on the way to where we’re going.”

“Honestly, it’s no problem at all.” Adrian squeezes my left hand.
