He just shakes his head.
“Bro, it’s fromHome Alone. You know, the robbers that break into the kid’s house?”Knox explains.
“We’re not robbers though,”Ryker points out, even more confused, but Torrez just looks blank, clearly out of the loop on this one.
Knox’s eyes go wide with shock.
“Do not tell me you have never seenHome Alone. It’s a fucking Christmas pastime!”
“Torrez is older than Christmas,”I point out on a giggle.“You know how old people are about keeping up with the times,”I add.
Marn gives me a stern look that tells me to cut it the fuck out.
“Witch, you are just asking for it, aren’t you,” Torrez tells me.
My vagina contracts with excitement. Ilovewhen he tries to fuck me into submission.
Torrez’s nostrils flare, and he gives me a knowing smile and chuckles. All of a sudden, my six other Chosen shout in my mind,“Dibs!”
Tok and Sauriel leap out of their chairs and start arguing with another Sentinel in the room. I focus back in on what’s going on, and when I hear the other male’s voice, it makes my skin crawl. It’s the male from the hallway that I overheard with the Sovereign. I wish I could scrub his voice and the shit he said from my mind, but unfortunately I don’t have a rune for that.
“You all squabble back and forth like either of these females are worthy and didn’t just commit regicide!” he bellows, spittle flying from his mouth. “They should be executed for their crimes, not rewarded,” he snarls.
“The Sovereign broke the law when she attacked them with no cause. She went against the decree of the tribunal and violated her vows to her people and the laws she swore to uphold,” Tok shouts back.
“They murdered her!” the male from the hallway accuses, his gaze filled with fury and his tone screaming for retribution.
“We defended ourselves and our Marked from an unprovoked attack, which we have every right under our laws to do,” Suryn declares, rising up from her own chair.
“So you say. And we’re just supposed to believe the word of the two females who are now both vying for her crown?” he accuses.
I push out of my chair.
“No, you should believe the evidence,” I growl at him. “My Chosen were attacked in our rooms. The Sovereign brought a fight to us. Everyone who’s reviewed the scene agrees. And if you don’t want to trust them, then think back on the other night just before you shoved your dick down the Sovereign’s throat in the hallway. Pretty sure she told you she was going to get rid of us and her niece if she couldn’t get her on board with it.”
“How dare you!” he screams at me and lunges.
He doesn’t even make it a foot closer before the room converges on him. I expect them to carry him out kicking and screaming, put him in jail or something, but someone shoves a sword through his chest instead, and the male from the hallway is dead in seconds.
Well, okay then.
Guards carry out the body, and the back and forth about who should be Sovereign kicks up like nothing happened. I look around the room and then back to my Chosen.
“Let me make this easier for everyone,” I declare.
Tok raises his arms to get everyone’s attention, and the arguing slowly quiets. He looks over at me expectantly.
“I’m going to make this decision a whole lot easier for everyone,” I repeat, and the quiet murmuring still going on gets slightly louder. “I remove my name from consideration for Sovereign,” I announce.
“What?” Marn demands as she surges to her feet.
“I don’t want the fucking crown!” I exclaim, and the room goes silent.
Tok and Marn gape at me like they don’t know how to process what I’m saying.
“Suryn, I’d like to speak to you outside,” I tell her, and then I turn and move toward the door.
“Vinna, wait!” Marn calls out to me, but I ignore it.
