I spend the next three hours getting photographed, changing my clothing, and getting my hair styled ten different ways. They touch up my makeup a few times, but I was told I have a lovely natural shade of skin, so I don’t need much of anything other than to stop the glare from the photos.

“Thank you,” the photographer says, holding out his hand for a shake. “I’ll go through these immediately and send them to Harvey within the hour.”

Wow, that’s fast. I didn’t expect them to be done so quickly.

“Great. Thank you so much.”

I head to the changing room to put my clothes back on, and as I walk out, I look around for Meredith to say goodbye, but I don’t see her anywhere. There isn’t anyone at the front desk when I pass it, so I just let myself out and into my car.

By the time I’m back in my dorm, I have an email from Harvey letting me know he’s sending out my headshots as we speak, and he hopes to have an answer by morning. He sent them to themagazine he scouts for, but also some different agents who may be interested in taking me on.

Jesus, do these people sleep?

I respond, letting him know that I’m taking an impromptu vacation this weekend so anything that we schedule would have to be after that. He already has my class schedule, and I asked him to work around it as best he can. He said it shouldn’t be an issue.

When I wake up in the morning, it isn’t from my alarm going off. My cell is ringing, and I don’t recognize the number. I’m about to send the call to voicemail when I remember I’m waiting to hear back on jobs, and maybe Harvey gave them my number directly.

“Cameron? It’s Harvey.”

“Hi, good morning.”

I roll onto my back, running my hand down my face, hoping to wake up a little more.

“I have the most amazing news.”

“You got me a photoshoot already?”

“Better,” he says excitedly.

Better? What the hell can be better than photoshoots? Isn’t that what the goal was?

“Well, don’t keep me in suspense here.”

“This almost never happens, Cameron. Never. But they want you for amovie.”

I blink a few times, staring up at my ceiling.

“Say what now?”“A movie, Cameron. The big screen.”

“No, I can’t act. That won’t work.”

“Here’s the thing, Cameron, yes you can. Everyone can. You’ll take some lessons, they’ll guide you in the right direction. Besides, it’s not a big part, but trust me, you don’t want to pass this up.”

I blow out a breath. I’m excited about this, of course I am, but also… I’m scared as hell. This isn’t what I wanted. Yet there are thoughts running through my head of what this could mean. I could be a movie star? That’s insane!

“Okay, I need more info.”

“They didn’t give me much just yet. All I know is they start shooting next week in Hawaii and—”

“Whoa, hold on. I can’t go to Hawaii. I have class.”

“Cameron, this is amovie.”

“But I told you I needed to finish school.”

“This is a rare opportunity. Do you understand that?”

“I do, trust me I do, but I can’t miss classes for this. It’s just not the right time. Maybe during the summer—”
