Maybe when I was alive, I would have done so.But I was no longer a frail human.
I was an angel.
Without thinking, I brought up my hand and slammed it against his chest, watching my golden energy explode like lightning against his chest.
Endor’s eyes stared back at me with a look I would have guessed was rather foreign to him.
Worry.
The sight only inflamed my desire more.Power ran through me, and I liked how it felt.
To hold someone else’s fear in the palm of my hands.
“What the hell are you guys doing?”Mercy’s soft voice pulled me away from temptation.I dropped my hand, turning to face her, but Endor did not let go of me.In fact, he tightened his grip, and I did not push him away. The burning had subsided, and there was only the faint heat of his palm against my dress.
Mercy looked at me with furrowed eyebrows before glancing at Endor.
“Iwas trying to aid us.The angel here decided to play God and tried to smite me.All so she could covet you instead of help you.”
The little shit.
Of course, he’d try to paint himself as the hero, when in fact he was the villain. He was the one who wished to covet her for hell’s own makings!
Mercy sat up straight, chewing her lip.
“And how did you mean toaidus?”she asked Endor, her gaze soft and warm.
He didn’t deserve her sweetness, her innocence.Though for reasons I couldn’t understand, she had founded some sort of attachment to the demon.
Just because he says he’s a hero, because he looks like one...doesn’t mean that he is, sweetheart.
I knew all too well the trappings of ideals.Of how you could impart your own hopes and dreams on someone.
Which was why I vowed to myself to be that guiding light for Mercy.
She needed me.
She needed an angel to guide her through the shadows, to help her find herself, and she needed to be saved from the likes of Endor.
Just as I needed to save myself from temptation.
CHAPTER3
Endor
“Demons possessa sort of power that is beneficial for accessing mortal memories,” I said, shooting the pissant angel a glare.“Celestial beings also possess this ability to an extent, but they are more apt to use it tosuggestthings, alter memories and life’s moments in your brain to makeHeavenmore appealing,” I said.Valory’s eyes furrowed, and she looked confused.
Was she not aware of the powers she actually possessed?
My mind went to only moments ago, when she’d gotten hot like a fire poker with smite, and the look of fury in her eyes.
Sitting in front of me now, in her blue doe-eyed glory, it dawned on me perhaps she didn’t.
And that I could use to my advantage.
“And you do not use your abilities to color mortal’s views of death?”she said, shaking her head, raising a brow at me.
“Demons do notneedto suggest falsehoods.Life is precious as it is and should not be meddled with.”
