But with me, he was different.
And I was different, too.
The overwhelming desire to tell this man, this creature, how I felt was prevalent.
All it would take was courage.
Courage, and the ability to say three very small words.
Was it possible to fall for someone after only a few weeks?
Logically, I wasn’t sure, but as Bane ran his fingers through my hair, I still felt as if something was missing.
“Mhmmm...” I murmured as slumber overtook me.
* * *
“Blackthorn wishes to see you, like, as soon as possible,” Delaney said as she set her backpack down on the ground.
I’d awakened in my room alone, a part of me wondering where Bane had wandered off to. Though I trusted whatever it is he was up to, wherever he was, he was fine. I was sure of it. Just because we were sort of together—we’d never officially discussed our situation, but we weren’t exactly seeing or interested in anyone else—didn’t mean we were attached at the hip.
Not yet, anyway...
Bane has been more than patient with me, making sure everything—and I mean everything—is a pleasurable experience. But every time we get close to actually crossing that line... I can’t find the words, even though the desire in me is so unbelievably loud.
It should be easy, right?
Considering it’s what I want...
And I do want to cross that threshold, with Bane.
So why haven’t we?
“Oh...” I responded as I wiped the sleep from my eyes. I’d gotten used to the post-orgasm naps at this point, but it wasn’t as if Delaney or anyone else for that matter knew why I was so tired all of a sudden.
“Yeah, apparently you’re hard to get a hold of,” Delaney said with a raised eyebrow. “I’d gone to see her over the budget allotted for the fall banquet,” she said, flipping her copper hair over her shoulder. Her green eyes twinkled like stars at the mention of what everyone around here seemed to be buzzing about. Some fancy themed dinner that was the epitome of all things Blackthorn, apparently. Though with the banquet being a month away, I didn’t see all the fuss.
“And before I left, she said specifically to tell you to come see her. Like she knew you were going to be here in the dorm, sleeping your night away,” she jabbed.
I wasn’t sure how much Delaney knew. It wasn’t like Bane and I were overtly public. Sure, it was hard to keep our hands to ourselves during the one class we shared, but other than that, it wasn’t like we were constantly together or anything. But the smirk on her face told me she might know more than she was letting on.
I got out of my bed and headed for the bathroom, if only to freshen up for a visit with Blackthorn’s headmistress, and soon enough, I was on my way.
It wasn’t late, there were still plenty of students in the halls heading to extracurriculars or on their way to the courtyards, or just in general soaking up the ambiance of a spooky, elegant castle like a mystery novel.
When I finally reach Blackthorn’s office, I barely have time to sit.
“Come in, Miss McCreanor.” Headmistress Blackthorn’s voice carries, and I realize her door is open, her secretary gone for the moment.
The timbre in her tone makes me move my feet, and the door closes of its own accord as I walk in and take my seat.
“Have you had any visions as of late?” Headmistress Blackthorn said calmly as she stared at me from her throne.
Oh, cutting to the chase today, are we?
Something must be very important...
Though her questioning felt different than the other times we’d spoken.
