But a monster clearly did not understand boundaries or time or the repercussions of such things as my human cage did.
And I knew that no matter how powerful Violet was now that she’d awakened, she was still a woman who needed to eat, shower, and sleep in order to operate at her best.
So instead of picking her up and throwing her across the table to devour as I wished I could, I instead focused on filling Violet full of actual sustenance.
“Breakfast isn’t until tomorrow morning, and the kitchen is technically closed, so unless you’d like to starve until morning, I suggest you do as I say and be a good little girl,” I said before darkly adding, “please.”
Her cheeks reddened like a tomato and she bit her lip, but did as I said.
The sight only fixed to make my hunger stir. It’d been hours since I fed now, and I no longer felt the high I had earlier.
She sat on the stool quietly, her gaze never breaking mine.
I turned away, heading toward the giant coolers.
“What wereyoudoing there? In the forest, I mean?” she asked as I opened the doors, selecting an array of items. Chicken, butter, mushrooms, leeks, heavy cream, and chives. I threw a few potatoes in my arms before coming back to the prep table and laying everything out. I returned to the coolers to grab the last few ingredients—some spinach and a slab of bacon.
I felt compelled to answer her, and so I did.
“I... needed to think.” I grabbed myself a cutting board, a knife, and a frying pan, setting up my workspace. I focused on the task in front of me, knowing if I turned to face her, I wouldn’t be able to resist her.
And I needed to resist her.
I needed tocarefor her in ways that didn’t end with her speared on my cock until my knot burst.
Violet deserved more than just my lust.
My magic thrummed at the revelation, but I did not have time to focus on such things.
Instead, I started to slice the skin off the potato with my knife and thumb as she continued to speak.
“Do you often run away to far off lands to think? Is that a thing people do here?” she asked.
I shrugged. “Sometimes it’s nice to forget the strain of life,” I said cautiously.
“It’s the first day of school, what in the world could be so strenuous for you?”
I slid my knife through the bare-skinned potato, much harder than I anticipated. Violet did not jump, nor did she spook. Instead, she pressed on, like a fearless little faerie.
“I mean, you clearly know what you’re doing, right? All thosegancanaghpowers, challenging Professor O’Connor... not to mention the badass flight ability... What stressesBane Lockeout enough he needs to take off for the hills?”
I focused on slicing my potato into quarter inch cubes, focusing on my breathing.
“Plenty of thingsstressme out, Violet.”
“You can call me Vi, you know. Everyone else does,” she said sweetly.
I slid the potatoes to the side as I worked on chipping my spinach.
“Perhaps I like the sound of your given name on my tongue in all its original beauty.”
The words were somehow mine, but not. It was as if I didn’tthinkbefore I spoke. I just...
Said what I felt.
I looked to see her cheeks sporting that beautiful blush again, and sheperfumedthe air with sweet lilies and arousal once more.
I cleared my throat as I moved about, keeping my hands busy, my mind focused on the task at hand.
