I noticed it was nothing but tamped down, dark earth. As if these cavernous tunnels were build directly into the earth...
Like the castle.
“The Forest of Lir is a dangerous place to venture even for those of us who know what we are doing,” he said judgmentally.
“I didn’t ask to be brought there, thank you very much. I actually declined, but—”
“But what, Violet? Were you powerless to the charm of the damn Squid Squad?” He sneered. “Did Norman wrap his slimy tentacles around you and take you against your will?”
His feral gaze settled on me, and suddenly it wasn’t just my desire that had me burning up, but his insinuation.
I was not some... some... damsel in distress who couldn’t take care of herself!
“No!” I said petulantly as I caught up to his stride. The tunnel narrowed, which meant we could no longer walk side by side, and I noticed the thin, metal staircase spiraling up like a labyrinthian claustrophobic capsule.
Bane turned to me, the motion drawing us closer as he moved slightly, backing me up against the wall.
I watched as his dark eyes shifted to a hazy sort of pink, as he leaned his arm against the rock wall behind me, his gaze holding me in place as my entire body heated.
“Are you a victim, Violet? Powerless to refuse those who desire you?” he asked, and I noticed the tensing of his jaw as he leaned closer, his solid mass pinning me to the wall.
I wanted to argue with him, to tell him I wasn’tpowerless. But I’d come to Blackthorn because I needed answers, and despite getting them, I still had so many unanswered questions.
Magic swelled beneath the surface of my skin, dancing with new life as desire flooded me like a damn.
I was going to need to burn this pair of underwear, stat.
But something about his words ignited more than fight, more than desire.
Those who desire you.
Up until I’d set foot on this damn island, no one had desired me. What sort of luck was it that my first day of class I had not one, not two, butthreecreatures soliciting themselves for dangerous, yet sexy liaisons. Either I truly was packing some sort of late bloomer faerie sex magic, or I’d just been barking up the wrong island most of my life. I couldn’t be sure which it was, truly.
I leaned against Bane, my breasts bristling against the flimsy, heated fabric of his shirt. It felt about as wet as my lady garden, which had seen a considerable amount of moisture after a life-long dry spell. Which was saying a lot.
“No,” I said as I brought myself within an inch of his beautiful, plush lips.
Lips that begged to be kissed.
Lips that I knew just how they tasted.
“I am perfectly in control,” I said darkly.
Bane’s eyes glittered with mischief, the corners of his sultry lips perking up in a way that exposed just the tip of a fang. The sight made my insides melt.
Surely I could fight the desire building within me, the desire to fall to my knees and show him just how powerless I truly was.
Where the hell did that come from?
I swallowed, keeping my gaze trained on him.
“And I am hungry,” I said with finality.
Bane smirked.
“That makes two of us,” he said as he headed forth into the darkness, leaving to me to my racing heart.
I followed without question.
