Or the last time I came from just... making out.

Holy fuck...

“Um... you’re good, I take it?” she asked in a tiny voice.

A deep rumble in my chest formed, and I laughed.

I fuckinglaughed.

I nudged my face against her neck, breathing in her sweet scent. I never wanted this moment to end, but I knew reality was a cruel mistress.

“Very,” I said as I loosened my grip on her and lifted my head to look at her. “Thank you.”

The glow in her eyes had gone, and she looked... normal.

No glowing energy or magic or butterfly wings.

But she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen, even without those things.

Her body collapsed in my arms as she laid her head on my shoulder, shuddering, and I could feel her relief, her exhaustion.

Instinctively, I flexed my wings, coveting her to us, and my body heated from the inside as if on some mystical level, it knew how to be exactly what she needed.

I knew exactly what she needed.

“Me, too,” she murmured, almost shyly into my shoulder.

I couldn’t help but smile.

“You are safe,” I whispered, captivated by the way her eyelashes stood out against her skin, by the weight of her body in my arms.

I never wanted to let go of her.

She yawned as she burrowed against me and my warmth.

“You’re like a warm fire on a winter’s night,” she sighed.

“You make me warm all over,” she said softly as she yawned.

Delirium wasn’t an uncommon side effect of lying with a creature like myself.

“I took too much, I’m sorry,” I said as I held her close, letting my fingers tease out the knots in her hair, softly.

I’d lost control. Like Icarus, I’d flown to close to Violet’s bright, faerie sun.

Violet slid her hand around my neck. Her form against mine was solid, warm, and perfect.

So fucking perfect...

She’d given me her power, but what could I give her?

I ran my hand over her hair, smoothing it out with one hand as I used the other to position her in my lap, cradling her body like a coveted treasure. As I moved her, I could feel the warmth between us, created from our body heat as well as my magic.

“I didn’t mean—”

“No,” she said as she burrowed her head against my shoulder. “You didn’t take too much. I just... I’ve never...” her voice trailed off.

“Never what, Violet?” I whispered, even though we were the only two people in the room.
