Except as he came out to the hallway, he could feel a stillness in the air that told him he was in fact, alone.
“Athena?” he called out as he turned the corner. The kitchen window was open, the crisp morning air filling the modern, white and gold kitchen.
Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the bathroom door open, and he took his leave. Though as he padded around Athena’s rather posh digs, he was certain of two things.
The first was that he was most certainly out of his league. He’d never been in a house that screamed wealth as hers did. The second, was that she had not answered him, and was nowhere to be found. It was as if she literally poofed into thin air and disappeared...
Brian quickly did his business in her bathroom, eyeballing her large marble shower.
Instantly, images flashed in his mind of memory, of Athena pressed up against the marble, water falling on them both as he wrapped his hands around her wrists while he took her until she couldn’t stand anymore.
Immediately, his cock twitched at the thought and he shoved the thoughts down.
Now is not the time!
Just as he shook the thoughts off, the sound of his cell phone broke the silence. The obnoxious ringtone was like a bucket of cold water to his system, especially knowing who it belonged to.
Tallulah Belle Leehan, his pain in the ass sister.
Brian sprinted toward the sound, nearly slipping on the sleek, shiny black tile floor before finding his cell phone wedged in between the cushions of Athena’s couch.
He barely made it before the phone kicked over to voicemail.
“Hello?”
“Where the hell are you?” His sister didn’t even bother with pleasantries, but then again Tellulah didn’t bother with a lot of things.
She was like a steamroller, his sister.
Must be the Irish blood in her.
“Why do you need to know my whereabouts?” he said defensively, if only because he didn’t even know what to say.
He had no idea where in the world he actually was. All he remembered was following Athena outside the DeLux Cafe, and in the blink of an eye, he was in her living room.
He didn’t even remember the Uber ride...
Was there an Uber ride?
“Out,” was all he could say. His sister grunted in annoyance.
“I know that much, asshole, because I was forced to break into your home, thinking maybe you had a heart attack or something since I practically beat your door down for fifteen minutes and you did not answer.”
Brian’s jaw clenched. Tellulah was quite impulsive, and there was a high chance she was not exaggerating. He’d seen her bust down a door before because he’d locked her out of his room when they were teenagers horsing around.
Their parents were still quite salty about the matter, and the story was brought up nearly every Christmas.
“You know, it would behelpfulif maybe you called before dropping by unannounced,” he nipped.
“Why? It’s not like you have anything to hide or anything going on I need to be mindful of. Not like you have a busy ass social life.”
Brian pursed his lips. “It is called boundaries, Lu. There a reason you’re calling me or you just want to bust my balls?”
Tellulah sighed, her normal banter softening to a much more concerning tone.
“It’s dad,” she said quietly.
Brian’s heart nearly stopped at her words.
