Chapter One

Serenity glanced overat Sergi.

He looked angry. The tick of his jaw was prominent as he watched the screens and he had clenched his hands at his sides.

She slowly shook her head and looked at Nicky.

He gave her a nod as he’d seen the same thing as she had.

“Find me her medical records if you can?”Sergi asked as his quiet tone belied the rage in his eyes.“I need to make sure that she’s in that chair because she needs to be and not because she thinks it will make her more pitiful.I have no time for fakers or liars and like you said before, she’s more cunning than her brothers.”

Serenity went back to her computers and began to type.It took her fifteen minutes but she found what Sergi wanted.By the time she got the files open, she was frowning as she read what the doctors had written. She quietly hit the print button. When the pages were out, she got up and went to the printer.Without saying a word, she handed them to Sergi and sat down.

Sergi read what she had given him.A few minutes later, he looked up and explained, “She needed the chair after her mother’s attack left her unable to walk until she healed but that was ten years ago.She began therapy after six months but there is no information about if she can walk now or not.”He shook his head.“So she could legitimately still need that chair.

Yuri quirked an eyebrow and commented, “She’s got steel balls though.Even you have to admit she’s a sneaky little bitch and to go after every faction? That’s insane. Then to put the blame on the Bratva and keep it quiet for ten years? That’s quite the plan.”

Sergi snorted.“Da, it takes a greedy nature. But we used her own plan to find her and now she’s caught. She’ll pay the price for her own greed.”He curled his fingers into fists.“She thought she was untouchable. The Bratva will teach her a harsh lesson and she will pay for her lies and manipulation.”

Serenity snorted.“She’ll sit in a cell and watch the Bratva lay claim to everything she thought she had.All her money will go back to those that paid her for her silence all those years. She doesn’t know it yet but her accounts are almost drained, so if she thinks she’s got billions waiting for her to walk away, then she is delusional.”

Sergi looked over at her.“You are returning all the money?”

Serenity nodded.“Yeah, but like I told the factions at the meeting, I can’t get it all back, only what she’s got left. You all saw the place she lived in right? That cost a pretty penny, plus her security and weapons cost a healthy chunk of money too.But I am keeping records for everyone involved and they will be available for anyone who asks.”

Sergi nodded.“Da, that is smart. As Bratva, we have no secrets and with this situation, we must be as transparent as we can be without giving out any secrets we hold dear.”

Serenity went on to explain the details, “I have the percentages worked out and each faction will get back some of what they paid to her.Like maybe half?”She shrugged.“It won’t be all of what they paid but at least they will get something back.”

Sergi nodded.“And the fact that she will be sitting right there in front of the very men she swindled will make that so much better. They will look her in the eye and spit in her face and she will know there won’t be a place she can hide anymore. There won’t even be a place for her to lay her head because the very people she cheated and wronged will know her face and some of them have very long memories.”He shrugged.“You can’t feel sorry for her, not about this. She made her bed and now she will lay in it.”

Yuri nodded.“Da that is true and once we deal with her maybe the city can catch its breath.I know the moment may not last long but that would be nice.”

Sergi smiled faintly.“Da that would be nice and if we hold her accountable the rest of the world might see us in a good light. That wouldn’t hurt either.”

Kosta looked up from his computer screens and said, “Viktor and the boys are here with LaDonna.”

Sergi nodded.“Better get a cell ready for her, maybe not around the others.I want her to face the men she blackmailed all these years.”

A couple of the security men nodded and left the room to tidy up a cell for her.

Sergi turned and waited to meet their newest ‘guest.’

The door opened and Viktor pushed the wheelchair inside the room.

LaDonna Rinc was swearing while trying to hold the chair back in any way she could but of course, she couldn’t and she wasn’t happy about that fact. When she noticed the men standing there waiting for her, she glared at them.“What the hell is this?Who are you bozos?”

Sergi raised his brow and glared at her then he told her, “We are the Bratva here in New Orleans.”

LaDonna shrugged.“Well, la tee da.Big fucking deal, do you want a gold star for that?”

“You are not any kind of lady, that is for sure...”Sergi gritted his teeth.“I suggest you have a little care about what you say and how you act in front of us.We aren’t going to take your shit or bow down to you.”

She gripped the arms of the wheelchair and glared at him.“I don’t have to watch anything, least of all you jokers. You broke into my home, started shooting up my place and dragged me out.You didn’t have a warrant to show me so what you did was illegal as hell. It’s called home invasion and I demand you call the police and turn yourselves in.You may be able to do that in Russia but you can’t do it here.”

“You insolent little brat.”Sergi snarled.“I don’t take orders from someone like you.”He glanced at the security men and nodded.“Take her to a cell and lock her up.Make sure you search her before you leave her cell.I want whatever she has in her pockets.”

Two security men walked toward her.
